Just watched Randy Shandobil reporting for KCTU News (Channel 2 San Francisco Bay Area). The sneering report elevated Dem candidate Jerry Brown for using Dem party funds and smirked/sneered about the fact that the two republican candidates are spending their own money EVEN THOUGH THEY 'CLAIM' TO BE FISCAL CONSERVATIVES! The reporter emphasized this but I really don't get his point - using your own money means you aren't fiscally conservative?? That was the direction of the reporter's coverage - 'look at these hypocritical republicans!'. Here's an annoying excerpt (the channels' webpage has a transcript): "Political reporter Randy Shandobil pointed out that the $59-million Meg Whitman is paying to promote herself would probably pay the salary and benefits of 800-900 teachers for a year.
Her response, "Well this is about the governor's race, right. This is about who is going to lead the State of California for the next four years. And i think the choice will be very stark.
Shandobil, "You didn't really directly answer my question. 800-900 teacher jobs... $59-million. you call yourself a fiscal conservative. add it up for people who don't understand that."
I don't understand it - really. Is he saying she should pay the teacher jobs herself? Does he not understand something here? Or is he really so into Koolaid consumption that THIS seemed like critical inquiry?
There are no Republicans running for governor of California.
Correct, I should have said Rhinos. My apologies.
It’s San Fran, their in the toilet for liberal democrats....
Agreed. But the narcissism of the MSN used to motivate them to pretend to veil their behavior. However, from the time they started campaigning for Obama, the MSN stopped pretending to be balanced and I find it insulting. I know, I should be jaded by now - after all, I watched how the MSN treated Bush for years. But it continues to gall because the mental midgets preen and smirk at their own brilliance while behaving like clowns; they really believe that they are morally superior. That one semester of ‘journalism’ I took in college - Randy Shandobil’s report would have gotten an F and it was an easy class. With each new insult, I think I have become hardened to it, and then I hear or read something new and am disgusted anew.
Meg Whitman has been the worst at it. She started in right away on Poizner. Poizner, less well financed, had to sit out much of the early hit pieces of Whitman.
He fought back with some “now the truth style ads” and some of his own jabs.
Whatever Reagan said about speak no ill of a fellow Republican is lost on California Republicans. In a word, it is disgusting.
Republicans really need to take advantage of the public loathing for media and turn this stuff around—”Good idea, how much is your salary, I’ll match it if you pay for a few teachers.”
Poisner served in the Bush Whitehouse, cut his budget in Sacramento before it was fashionable to and necessary do so. What do you find wrong with him?
That would be fun to see. I don’t think Meg even understood what the reporter was sneering about. I am not enthusiastic about these rhinos but I don’t like to see this MSN behavior roll on unopposed. Hmmmm...Maybe I should send the candidates your suggestion!
What's amusing is that he either doesn't care that being a fiscal conservative would mean she wouldn't be paying for teachers with her private funds. I don't think the poor thing grasps it, and this was a chance to point out his cluelessness. It would take an actual conservative to do that, tho'.
OK so I did pass it on to Meg’s website (didn’t use your Darkwold377 name - made you an anonymous poster).
I hope she thinks about it. Even if she’s a RINO (I don’t know), if Republicans learn that they can win by talking and subsequently walking the walk, we’re in a better position than with people like Brown, for God’s sake.
I really don’t know why she and the other repub candidate didn’t say SOMETHING in reply. Perhaps they were too incredulous? Hope your comment makes them think.
yeah, I know. I remember back during Clinton’s impeachment our local KABC news anchor had just had a report on the trial in the house and when they cut back to the anchor, (a guy named Harold Green) said thanks for the report or some such and then as an aside, he looked into the camera and sighed “Why don’t they just leave that poor man alone”, meaning Clinton. My mouth dropped open and I remember being disgusted that an anchor was so blatantly taking sides on the air, and I realized that he probably figured that everyone that mattered in his world agreed with him completely. They really do think they are holding the moral high ground.
Liberals are amazingly mixed up.
On the other hand, look how Obama hid his true agenda, too.
People SAY they want politicians to say it like it is, but in the end, the people are to blame, at least partly; they want people to "play nice" and "get along" in debates, and "end the partisanship" and blah blah blah, when in reality, people should be getting mad about what liberalism does to this country, and be proud of what conservatism could do if we'd only practice it.
I need some proof of all this. What yuo charge is so overwhelming that it calls for some verification. Not all of it, just a few of the points would be nice.
For example, you write: “He refused to answer who he was voting for, in such a way it was clear he supported Kerry.”
The parts about him donating to the Gore and Kerry campaigns should also be pretty easy to verify. Do you have those records. I would think you would since you have thrown out the charges.
On the effort to abolish Prop 13, there is a high percentage of elected officials at all levels of government that preach the evils of Prop 13. The League of California cities certainly would like to see it disappear and most cities vote to belong to it.
If what you say is true, then it sounds like the best choice for California is Brown because Whitman is as awful as you make Poisner out to be.
