Does the fan ever get loud? Does the laptop ever get burning hot while running?
its safer to shut it down than to use standby.
Is there a power saver setting that shuts off a monitor or docking station separately? So instead of just clicking a button to wake it up, you have to do something like ctl+alt+del to kick on the whole system? (that’s how my work computer is)..
When you recharge you’re computer, make sure the battery is actually charging.
Are you running out of hard drive space? Sometimes the hibernate mode messes up when it cannot save everything.
Have you virus/spamware scanned your machine lately?
I’d just shut it down, and wait for it to boot up.
If you are having to wait a long time for it to boot up, you either need more memory, or have too many services/apps running at startup....Or perhaps both.
Got to Start>Run type msconfig. Under the ‘Startup’ tab you will see a list of items that automatically run when the system boots up. Uncheck anything you don’t need to be running at all times, such as antivirus software/firewalls, ect. Uncheck everything else. When you’re done reboot. The next time the system boots up, you’ll receive a popup message, check the box, and click ‘Ok’.
Shoot it. 12 gauge, 00. Worked just fine with my last Acer. But that’s just me.
My two cents - connect the laptop to a monitor. I have seen the screen fail on laptops and act similar.
Just turn it off at the end of the day and go to work earlier.
Well here’s what happened to me on a similar Averatec machine.
1. Stop using standby as it can cause the machine to shut down awkwardly. Just shutdown and restart.
2. Sounds like an over heat problem when it does not respond to keyboard.
3. To resume use from standby try hitting the spacebar to get its attention, rather than hot keys.
4. Make sure you have the manufacturer’s “rescue” disk with XP and all the drivers on it.
5. Consider re-imaging the machine. It seems like every two years is about right.
6. Whether to use anti virus is your call. As of now I think they cause more problems than they are worth. I’m just careful, have recent backups and re-image when necessary.
Load Windows 7 and get some new IT guys. The BS about never turning off the cpu is a fallacy perpetuated by hackers that love to use your resources....
A quick fix is to the following.
1) Go to “Start”
2) Go to “All Programs”
3) Go to “Accessories”
4) Go to “System Tools”
5) Go to “System Restore”
6) The Radio Dial button that is checked should be to “Restore My Computer To an Earlier Time”
7) Click “Next” below in this window.
8) Click on any bold date. I would do 1 week at least just to be certain.
9) Click “Next” and “Next” again on the following web window.
This will take about 10 minutes more or less. When your computer comes back up. Your Virus protection will be off. Just update it. This will take a few minutes. If it gives you still an error after you tried update it. Then just do another reboot. It may have to try to download all your updates one more time, but should run fine after this. Once everything is done you should be good.
If not, then I recommend using “CC Cleaner” which is free. However, if you do not mind paying $20 (or so) for “Advanced System Care”. I have it and love it. It’s been fantastic, and my computer runs extremely fast.
I have 2G of RAM and I’m still running in an Intel M processor. It’s old, but my computer is extremely fast thanks to the RAM and “Advanced System Care”.
Hope this helps you out.

Had a similar problem with my desktop..corrupted boot files. Had to reformat the hard drive.
memory bleed. You need to do an occasional full reboot.
I usually do a full shut down and wait at least 10 seconds then turn it back on and I am good to go for a couple of weeks.
