Climategate team were 'guilty of sloppiness - NOT cheating'

The scientists at the heart of the Climategate email scandal were disorganised, poor with figures and naive - but not dishonest, it has been ruled.

An independent inquiry into the work of the University of East Anglia's world-leading global warming unit concluded that the researchers were 'ill-prepared for being the focus of public attention'.

Their record-keeping was not up to scratch and some of the statistical techniques used were out of date.

But their studies into long-term changes in temperature were carried out 'fairly and honestly', the panel chaired by geologist and cross-bench peer Lord Oxburgh found.

The inquiry was set up by the university after hundreds of emails sent by researchers at the UEA's Climatic Research Unit were leaked on the internet.

First revealed by the Daily Mail in November, the files showed scientists plotting how to avoid Freedom of Information requests and appeared to show them discussing how to manipulate data.

Some of the most controversial contained personal attacks on climate change sceptics and one mentioned using a 'trick' to massage years of temperature data 'to hide the decline'.

The seven-member panel analysed at least 11 influential studies published by the CRU over the last 20 years and carried out extensive interviews with the scientists.

They enacted an academic blacklist of anyone raising skepticism to their findings.

It was a criminal cabal.

Bill Clinton was just being sloppy when he gave Monica Lewinsky that pearl necklace.

When trillions of dollars and western civilization is at stake, "Sorry we were sloppy" doesn't seem sufficient.
Of course the politicos who rode on that faulty data, very much on purpose despite warnings, are even more at fault.

Is that what your wife said when she caught you in her bed with your boyfriend?

... guess not, huh?

Sorry climategate zealots, there is NOTHING you can say or do to make me believe in your hoax. Not before you got busted lying, not while you got busted lying, or after you got busted lying, nothing.

All that you have succeeded in is getting me to believe that scientists are government propagandists and nothing more.

Congratulations! Smashing success for science!

Science happens as per the scientific method. Each and every real scientist on this planet know exactly how this goal must be upheld and how to get there.
This is nothing more than their latest bold faced lie.

The government officials are just trying to avoid being lynched. People in England have had to pay for Climategate
programs and policies already and they should be made as h*ll!

They hid data. They destroyed data. They intimidated other scientists, and tried to get still others fired from their jobs. They kept work that disagreed from theirs from being published in peer review magazines (so that they could dismiss it as having never been subjected to peer review).

They openly attacked anyone who proposed any alternative theories, openly derided anyone who suggested that variations in solar output might have something to do with variations in planetary temperatures even though we know quite definitely that they do.

Liars with an agenda. The problem for us is that the agenda is so important that they will pretend like none of this ever happened. If they can’t use global warming as a pretext they’ll use something else. Centralized control of the entire world economy, and legalized (obligatory no less) trading in empty assets which is what carbon trading is, a legally enforced shakedown larger than the largest shakedown anyone has ever previously imagined... with that much riding on it they’ll invent whatever science they have to. Wave enough grant money around and someone will swear to it.

Totally agree. Even though I am not a scientist, I can recall scientific method from school, as well as the validity of experiments. If I am not mistaken, which I may be, because it’s been a long time, if an experiment cannot be replicated achieving the same results using the same methods, then it is not valid.

Well, it wasn’t a “lie lie”.

And it’s not really “cheating cheating.”

Therefore, it’s all good, Now move on, nothing to see here.

Sure, why didn’t they come up with this excuse months ago? DUH, my dog ate my paper. DUH, we’re sloppy. DUH, we lied through our teeth. How bought, really bad science.

No, they were not merely “sloppy” data cooks! They were very deliberate, anal-retentive, smarter-than-thou psychopaths that did the dishes after each step of their cooking process to make sure they were “clean” and in order.

They have shown that the self-proclaimed circle jerk of the educated-elite are not to be trusted and it is appearing to be the den of liars, frauds and weak-minded followers.

Criminals. Absolute thievery. Destroyers of the respect true science deserves.

Well, AlGore, the “science” is settled all right! It’s officially been declared to be based on disorganized “scientists” who are poor with figures and naive to boot! In my book, I would call such folks “bad scientists” and the “science” they produce “bad science”.

That’s right, it’s official that anthropogenic global warming is bad “science” produced by bad “scientists” Good thing the Apollo moon mission wasn’t done like that. If so, why hell, we would have been blowing up our poor astronauts right and left, and probably taking out a few random Florida retirement communities in the bargain.

I wonder if AlGore still thinks that bad “science” justifies trillions of dollars of economic upheaval? Probably.

Exactly!

That is a description of science work that 1) should not be believed and 2) should never see the light of day in any journal, peer-reviewed or not.

What a damning analysis, even if it wasn’t meant to be.
