A Garland man pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge after admitting he stuffed a lead weight into a bass during a fishing tournament.
Robby Rose, 45, must serve 15 days in jail and surrender his fishing license, said Mike Cox, spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

This will lead to a whole new batch of “the one that got away” stories ...
I don’t know, something seems ‘fishy’ about this whole story. ;-)
Sunday morning fishing shows have been ruined with these contests, who cares, trying to catch the most and stuff, it’s like a beer guzzling contest. I miss the old shows where they’d be flying fishing in wyoming or just Bill Dance fishing and goofing off on some lake, now it’s contests, contests are not what fishing is about, they ruined the whole thing for me ...
Is nothing sacred? Fixing fish? I’m afraid I agree with other fellow here; never cared for the competitions anyway. The fun of fishing is the strike. I’m a lousy fishermen, but even the small ones were fun.
I thought the contest was about how many different patches they could sew on their shirts, pants, shoes, hats, whatever...how many stickers they could put on their hot rod boat...
I hear you. But these sponsors and Professional fisherman make a pretty good living with these tournaments.
I prefer Jose on Spanish Fly and what’s his name on The Greatest Fishing Show. The TGFS guy was pulling 100 pound groupers out of pilings the other day. He’d drop 200 pound test line with big bait by the pilings, the gigantic grouper would hit and the driver would just back the boat up. Hilarious!
So NOW all the BASS must be checked with a metal detector?...
Never understood the economics of buying a $100,000 dollars worth of equipment to fish. Having said that this happens all the time in tournaments. Sometimes they sneak out and stake fish out before the tournament.Lot of people enter very few win.
I guess he got some of those bass turds on himself this time.
I’ve found that now that I live on the lake I seldom go fishing. If someone comes over and go fishing I’m happy to go out and row at a creep along the shore as they fish and I take the camera rather than my rod.
I worked with a guy that grew those champion size pumpkins. He was DQâd in a competition for injecting them with water to increase their weight. One of the guys in the shop left a pumpkin on the break-room table with a pressure gauge sticking out of the top and a faucet out of the side. It was hilarious.
For sure...that’s the guys with their own show!!! What about the thousands of others... Have a nephew who bought a brand new bass boat and announced to the family he was going to get rich fishing....boat got repo’d the next yaer.
LOL I’d be a lot happier with a pontoon raft but even some of those are specifically built for fishing.
I have a pontoon and an older bass boat. The pontoon is great to put the grand kids on on go fish and swim off of while my son and I take the bass boat out for night fishing.
It's quite simple actually — The first year, the fish you catch average out to $2000-$3000 per pound. If you fish frequently enough (and long enough), you can eventually get your cost down to around $100 per pound. :=)

Chicken feed compared to over $million to buy a boat to marlin fish.
