AUGUSTA, Ga. As Phil Mickelson strolled up to the 18th green, his third green jacket locked up, he wondered if his wife would be waiting for him. She'd been there the first two times he won the Masters, but he would've understood if she decided to skip this victory celebration.
Yet there she was, waiting with an embrace they'll remember for a lifetime.
"I normally don't shed tears over wins," Mickelson said, his eyes watering. "When Amy and I hugged off 18, that was a very emotional moment for us. I'll cherish every moment of this week."
Eleven months ago, Amy Mickelson was diagnosed with breast cancer. While the prognosis is good, she's worn down physically. It's tough to get out among the crowds at a place such as Augusta National.
"She didn't feel well and she doesn't have energy," her husband said. "To have her here and share this moment and share the joy of winning on 18, and to share this with my kids, is something that we'll look back on the rest of our lives."
So, a tournament that started with the focus on a guy who committed serial adultery, ended with a victory celebration that was much more family friendly.

A class act compared to Snoop Tiger Tiger.
This was Tiger’s worst nightmare, because of the contrast between he and Phil with regards to their families. The contrast couldn’t have been any greater.
Beautiful! That’s the way real men treat their wives!!
2 eagles and a birdie on three holes to ramp into the lead is a stunning contrast to the play of Woods. It couldn’t have been scripted better.
I could see some of that rubbing off on him. It’s a good thing for him to see a winner with a strong family and the big deal that’s being made about it.
Thanks, inspiring finish with wife.
... and people were wasting their time on Sunday waiting for a Tiger run. He has never had a final day major come from behind...
I’m just thrilled Tiger didn’t win.
Thank God Tiger didn’t win.
Did anyone see that self-hating twit pouting and acting like a spoiled brat all weekend?
Go Phil!
You and me both. Though was kind of pulling for Couples.
Ditto that.
Yeah, he’s a Buddist, I can tell ‘cause of his “J.C.!” outbursts.
Mickelson is a class act. A tremendous role model.
He's a Bootyist.
Pretty heartbreaking for Elin who I think is a good mom. Tiger, who was sulking afterwards, said he might take more time off. Please do and just quit.
Kudos to Phil, Lee Westwood and the 16 year old phenom from Italy Matteo. They bring honor to golf.
More heartbreaking because I thought Amy was doing better. The Mickelsons are wonderful people and I hope Amy and Phil’s mom recover.
Phil’s dad was a pilot and I wonder if he had been military.
Especially with Elin getting on a jet to fly out of town before Tiger got home last night.
It was a PR disaster for Tiger to come back this quickly.
Now frankly, I expected him to miss the cut seeing as it was his first tournament back, but he did much better than I thought.
But that contrast to Mickelson really hurt Tiger, even with those who still supported him.
This ranks up there with my favorite masters of all time.
