ET breaks news that actress Dixie Carter, best known for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on the hit sitcom "Designing Women," has died. She was 70 years old.
"This has been a terrible blow to our family," her husband Hal Holbrook tells ET. "We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy. Thank you."
In addition to Holbrook, her husband of nearly 26 years, the actress is survived by her two daughters Mary Dixie and Ginna.
that’s my thought (hopefully not a suicide)
This is just too much to take for this Southern gal, here. I’m choked up.
God bless Dixie and her family.
Suicide? No I don’t think so..Sounds like she probably had a massive heart attack. I had no idea she was 70, I always pictured her being younger. I read her bio, she was a registered Republican..she once said she was probably the only Republican in Hollywood..she was a great actress.
This is sad. She struck me as being a great lady. I only watched a few episodes of “Designing Women,” but enjoyed her character.
WTF kind of comment is that? Are you smashed? I hope so.
Damn, just damn. What a talent. Prayers up for her and for Mr. Holbrook.
Condolences to Hal Holbrook. I always admired how strong their love affair was.
Classy lady. Strong & loyal conservative.
My heart goes out to Mr. Holbrook.
That’s sad.
I liked here.
RIP to a classy, patriotic and conservative lady. A real lady. We need more like her.
Surprised to hear she was only 70. That show was on 25 years ago. She looked at least 60 then.
Are we sure about this? I dont see this story on any other news website, and there hasn’t even been a “FOX NEWS ALERT”..and dont get me wrong, I love FNC, but they overuse the hell out of the “ALERT” thing.
wasn’t she good friends with Rush, or am I thinking of someone else?
No offense intended. Just an observation about most of our "Pop-Culture." I didn't "get" most of the "women friendly" sitcoms of the 80s and 90s. The guys who got in to them seemed to have something in common.
The comment about making peace before her death was sincere.
I hope to see her in the presence of The Lord.
I remember as a 14 year old boy watching that show and finding her quite hot (she was 50 at the time). However, the hottest woman on that show IMO is still Annie Potts. I’m not smashed as I write this, either. :O)
yeah, if you go to google.com and type in her name, its everywhere..FNC on the weekend is pretty much non existent so don’t be surprised if they don’t report this
Wow. That is so sad. 70 is just not that old. She will be missed.
RIP....a pubbie amidst a sea of hollyweird dims
