Carol Burnett's new memoir, "This Time Together," is anything but a tell-all book. In fact, it's barely a "tell-some" book.
But if anyone expects the 76-year-old TV legend to reveal herself as a back-stabbing, raging control freak who fought and clawed her way to the top and has nothing good to say about anyone she ever worked with, they really haven't been paying attention.
On the page, Burnett comes across as the same plucky, down-to-earth, good ol' Texas gal we've known for years.
Her first memoir, "One More Time," written in 1986, focused on her early years in Texas and her career evolution through the early '80s. The children of alcoholics, she and her younger sister were raised mostly by their grandmother, whom they called Nanny.
After a brief stint at UCLA, Burnett went off to New York, found early TV fame on the landmark "Garry Moore Show" and became a star with the off-Broadway musical "Once Upon a Mattress....."

In those days, that was LIVE television. Big difference, lost on most these days.
I completely agree!!!
"Mr. Hamilton is survived by his third wife, the former Lee Troggio, whom he married earlier this year; eight children from his first marriage to the former Gloria Hartley: Kathleen, of Sacramento, Calif., Dana, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Joseph, of Los Angeles; Jeffrey, of Poway, Calif.; John, of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Nancy, of Sidona, Ariz., and Judith and Jennifer, both of San Diego; three daughters from his marriage to Miss Burnett: Carrie, Jody and Erin, all of Los Angeles; two sisters, Joanne Bellanger, of Los Angeles, and Elizabeth Cronin, of San Rafael, Calif., and 11 grandchildren."
Did she have a daughter that committed suicide a number of years ago? I thought I had heard something about it, but I am just not sure.
Erin Hamilton Biography Erin Kate Hamilton was born on August 14, 1968. Her parents are Carol Burnett and Joe Hamilton. Up until she was 11 years old, she spent Friday night watching her mother tape the Carol Burnett Show. She recalls:
I wanted to be up there on that stage. I cant act for shit and never wanted to, she adds, laughing. I was much more interested in music.
Erin formed her own band, As Is, and was also the front woman for the L.A. band Komba Kalla. The bands eventually broke up and she married and had a child. She recorded Dream Weaver and it became an instant hit amongst dance audiences everywhere.
Erins life would be turned upside down when, in 2001, she found herself in a new relationship with a woman, Tanya Sanchez. A few months later, Tanya committed suicide in Erins home. Erin spiraled downward, trying to cope with what had happened and ended up in rehab. In January 2002, her older sister, actress Carrie Hamilton, died of lung cancer. Erin has been sober since 2002.

Of course, there's no accounting for taste, but: Compared to what other comediennes?
Regards,
Erin's partner/girlfriend committed suicide at their home. Carrie died of cancer.
Mary Tyler Moore’s only child, a son, committed suicide.
I’ll have to take a look at this after work.
I also enjoyed her parody of Bette Davis’ “A Stolen Life” (which she called A Swiped LIfe). It was about the twin sisters who go in a rowboat, and one comes back after the other one dies (or is killed) and assumes her identity.
Thank you.
That curtain-dress was designed by Bob Mackie.
Mrs. OldPossum watches TV and I have suggested that she get cable or satellite. Your post backs up what she told me.
To quote an FCC chairman back in the 50s, "TV is a vast wasteland" or something like that.
Carol’s portrayal of Norma Desmond was a classic as well.
