Yabut ... she had a right to her style of clothing, and a stupid husband/thought process that demands adherance to certain rules ... no matter what.

Machinists don't wear ties for a good reason

There was a constant battle between one of my old supervisors who insisted all staff must wear ties as per the company manual and the director of maintenace who feared our ties getting caught in the machinery we were inspecting and operating. It was easy to be yelled at by the supervisor to “get that tie on or be written up if I have to tell you again”and minutes later an irate utility man demanding “get that tie off,it is a safety violation!”
So it became customary to carry a tie in a pocket and quick put it on if the supervisor approached....

After lebenteenzillion years Postal management quietly announced that ties were prohibited on workroom floors, AND, business casual dress in all areas was acceptable.

That saved us all several thousand bucks in suits.

This came about because of the implementation of vast amounts of mechanization, automation and roboticization in postal mail processing facilities.

It's not just machinists ~ everybody who can come into contact with this equipment at any time should get rid of the loose clothes and ties.
