The “snide remark” accusation was not directed at you. It was directed at other posters who only seemed to want to make fun of this couple. I worry about the children — especially the autistic one. I have an autistic grandchild, and I have observed the harships that puts on the whole family. I apologize for writing poorly.

Yes, when I say “those are DOG years!” it is an expression to mean that one calendar year counts for much more.

As in... “You lived in Detroit for four years?”

“Yeah, and they were DOG years!”

So a 4 year Hollywood relationship, in “dog years”, would count for 28! ;)
