SAN ANTONIO
Sometimes things don't work out perfectly. So much can happen from the blueprint to the bouquets that just getting the chance to win a national championship is a blessing.
But to win another championship in the same fashion, so fluently, so flawlessly, so fabulously, is something the sport may never see again.
The magnificent run to a seventh national championship for the nation's pre-eminent college basketball program ended with an unusual but emphatic 53-47 win over Stanford at The Alamodome.
Maya Moore, the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the second half to lead UConn past Stanford (36-2).
"People asked how are you going to react when it's a close game," UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. "We reacted the way champions react and we won the game and that's what counts."

UConn is expected to arrive at Bradley International Airport at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The team is scheduled to travel to Gampel for a ceremony. Fox 61 will cover the Huskies at the Airport and at Gampel.

The team is scheduled to land at Bradley Airport tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3:30pm EDT. We've "greeted" the champions there for the past couple of years. It's a chartered plane, so it may not land exactly on time.
The rally area is usually at the Rt. 75/Schoephoester Road area - police will direct you where to park (in a field for free). The rally is always held outside, not inside the airport.
The chartered plane containing UConn players, coaches, band and cheerleaders usually gets a "water cannon" salute - it's pretty cool! There's a makeshift "stage" and local media (ie Channels 3, 30, 8 and Fox 61) cover the event.
Gov. Rell and Rep. Joe Courtney (yuck) showed up last year and gave short speeches. Players and Coach Geno Auriemma gave short speeches as well. Bring your cameras... lots of great photo opportunities!
After the airport rally, it's onto Gampel Pavilion in Storrs. WVIT Channel 30 reported on the 11pm news that the Gampel rally will start at approximately 5:30 p.m. EDT.
Article and information on 2 victory rallies that will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, April 7th (one at Bradley Airport, the other at Gampel Pavilion at the UConn campus in Storrs) are at the top of this thread.
Perfect Season — they didn’t lose a game?
Wow!
But UConn has always been at that level (at least in recent and maybe before recent memory).
Way to go, Lady Huskies!
No! 39-0 this year, 78-0 overall. Just incredible. :o)
>>No! 39-0 this year, 78-0 overall. Just incredible. :o)<<
They probably need to rework the conference ;)
Of course, sooner or later they will drop a game and the reaction will be interesting to say the least...
What a horrible game. UConn played well for maybe 10 minutes tops. Stanford just happened to be worse. Neither team could shoot, and it wasn’t all great defense.
The PSU Nittany Lions (the team prefers the nickname Nittany Lions over Lady Lions) have won over 100 consecutive matches (and 3 straight NCAA Titles) in an arguably more competitive environment in womens volleyball.
As good as UConn Women's Basketball is...here is the "team of the year":

The Huskies' return to Bradley International Airport and the pep rally at Gampel Pavilion today will be carried live on Fox 61. The team is expected to land in Windsor Locks at 3:30 p.m. There will be a short ceremony, including remarks by coach Geno Auriemma. Public access will be near the intersection of Route 75 and Firehouse Road. (Going north on Rt. 75, take a left onto Firehouse Road - Holiday Inn Express will be on your right.)
Doors will open at Gampel at 5 p.m., and the rally is expected to start at 5:30. It is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
Special Section Relive the tournament run in a special section in the Sunday Courant.

The UConn Huskies weren't at their best tonight, by any means, but they still managed to win. 39-0 for the season, 78-0 overall.
How to go HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!
You can’t tell me it’s not about the money. Scholarships go to the best and tallest women in the country. You can be sure thousands apply to UConn and all the other schools get the seconds.
It’s a shame, too. I haven’t watched a lot of women’s basketball (and probably no more than 5 minutes of any game not involving UConn), but some of the UConn-Tennessee games of the past have been on par with the Duke-Butler game. Obviously, the players aren’t as athletic, but the execution on offense in those games was much better than in the UConn-Stanford game.
That gave the knuckle-draggers on ESPN.com an excuse to bash the women’s game as a whole (not just that particular game.) (I try to keep my knuckles at least 1/4 inch off the ground, but sometimes I forget.)
