Three teenagers who were scheduled to appear Tuesday in Hampshire Superior Court to answer to criminal bullying charges related to the suicide of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince have invoked state law allowing them to miss their arraignments, a court official said.
Sean Mulveyhill and Kayla Narey, both 17 and from South Hadley, and 18-year-old Austin Renaud of Springfield have hired lawyers and invoked state law allowing them to formally waive their appearance, the court official said.
They would have appeared in court for the first time since prosecutors announced the charges last week.

PAB’s all around.
I imagine this is on the advice of counsel. Still, it is ironic.
So many teenagers suffer silently due to bullying. The only good thing I can think of that could come from this horrible case is that others will be educated on the subject. If not, she shall have died in vain.
Waiving an appearance for an arraignment is quite common.
The people that should also be in court are the school adminstrators. They should be facing charges.
Sharon Chanon Velazquez charged with violation of her civil rights.
Ashley Longe
Why aren’t some school officials also being charged?
Shame. Now though...we’ll see just how much of a bully they really are.
Our family dealt with bullying of one of our kids. The school would not do anything about it even after my many visits to talk with school adminstrators
At first the school fought back. They hit us with a requirement that the family needed to see a psychologist for interviews. They had a school appointed one they wanted us to see, said they would pay for it.
A close family friend was in that practice. We paid for his services instead. He interviewed us then filed his report that said the school was the problem. We then hired a lawyer and filed suit against the school district. We never took it to court but got an agreement out of the school. The situation improved but was never fully resolved. We pulled her out.
Glad we don't have any kids in public schools anymore. They are worthless.
The prosecutor said that the actions by the school isnt criminal under the law.
However the prosecutor said the way the school handled this case is “troubling.” That information has prompted the family to hire an attorney, and they may be poised to file a suit against school officials.
The community has been demanding the resignation of the principal and superintendent. But both have dug their heels in claiming they never knew of the bullying incidents.
a dance was held days after PP took her own life. Two of the “young ladies” (disputable) involved were overheard disparaging PP’s memory at a local South Hadley hair salon; something to the affect of “Phoebe, Phoebe, Phoebe, this had better not ruin my night at the dance!”

There are the perps, and there are those who let them get away with it. When I was in high school, I'd have killed them all if I thought I could have gotten away with it. Jesus saved me.
I wouldn't send a child I hated to public school ... and I don't have any children I hate.
Textbook sociopathic behavior and speech. Chilling.
And in perhaps the most pathetic irony of all, the school administrators are likely the very type that if confronted by a bully, would be DEMANDING that somebody do something!
We need to get rid of public schools.
