I got up before dawn to drive 1 hour 30 minutes to the Apple store in the city near me. Got in line before it opened, and boy, was that line long.
Took 3 hours to get my iPad, and it was the 16 MB version. I was expecting it to be a glorified iTouch, and understood that it was not a replacement for my Powerbook Pro.
That said, I am actually more enthusiastic about this than I am about the iPhone. It performs way beyond what I expected. The apps I have downloaded (mostly the free ones) are terrific, and it is so fast!
Those who expect it to replace a laptop for everything will find fault with it. I saw one poster on a forum complaining that it didn’t have the Hebrew language, one winging because the iWorks version isn’t as full-featured as the one for the regular Mac OS, etc.
But, I took it to the family Eater dinner today, and everyone was awed by what it can do way beyond existing technology. Some were Mac users, and some PC users. People tried out all sorts of different apps, and loved it.
