SAN ANTONIO -- Animal Care Services officials need your help to track down a couple they say stole a dog from the municipal shelter Thursday.
The dog is a 2-year-old mixed breed female with black, brown and white coloring. The dog was slated for rescue by the Animal Defense League who had performed an evaluation on her just minutes before she was taken.
The theft was caught on camera. Security system video shows staff evaluating the dog shortly before a couple approaches the animal's enclosure from different directions. After what appears to be a brief conversation, the woman pulled a leash from her purse, opened the kennel, and led the dog out of the kennel.
The woman is described as a white female, who is 30-40 years old with long dark blonde or brown hair and medium build/height. She was last seen wearing a pink sweater, beige t-shirt, and jeans and was carrying a dark pink or red purse.
The man is described as a heavyset Hispanic male, who is 30-45 years old. He has black hair with a receding hairline (shaved on sides and pulled into a long ponytail on top). He was last seen wearing a denim or light-colored long sleeve work shirt and jeans.
If you have any information about this case, please immediately call the San Antonio Police Department at 210-207-SAPD (7273) or call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867), submit a tip online, or text a tip by texting "Tip 127 plus your tip" to CRIMES (274637).
Well-behaved dogs like this one make excellent fodder for pit bulls to train with and kill.
