Explanation: Near the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy some 200 thousand light-years distant, lies 5 million year young star cluster NGC 602. Surrounded by natal gas and dust, NGC 602 is featured in this stunning Hubble image of the region. Fantastic ridges and swept back shapes strongly suggest that energetic radiation and shock waves from NGC 602's massive young stars have eroded the dusty material and triggered a progression of star formation moving away from the cluster's center. At the estimated distance of the Small Magellanic Cloud, the picture spans about 200 light-years, but a tantalizing assortment of background galaxies are also visible in the sharp Hubble view. The background galaxies are hundreds of millions of light-years or more beyond NGC 602.
I just hope they don't think we are tasty, with a little Hot Tabasco...
I usually judge Vast distances by the distance Voyager had to travel from the Delta quadrant back home to the Alpha quadrant.
I think it was 70,000 light years.
At Warp 9 that was like 70 years of travel.
Half the distance across the Milky Way.
70 years at Warp 9, and thats only 70,000 ly.......
Big universe.
Too bad we couldn’t recover the Hubble and bring it back for the Smithsonian.
I’d pick the higher res picture from the actual website then right click on it and pick “Set As Backround”
you might also have to choose “Stretch” in Desktop properties to get a picture to completely fill the screen.
LOL!
I was thinking maybe a tattoo that says "I taste like worms" but then I would be forever having to explain it..........
Thank you
Did it work??
I find myself just looking at it and all the little things that represent galaxies ........and the knowledge that those little galaxies are literally trillions and trillions of miles away from us.........
It makes me feel so insignificant.......
They are already here and I expect our public masters to reveal their existence soon, so you may get your wish.
How fast is warp nine?
You could be right, someone already sent me a letter wanting to know how many people live in my house.........
Could assimilation be in my future? Makes one want to say Hmmmm.............
“...How fast is warp nine?...”
A little slower than my old ‘69 Camero was.
1.63 Trillion Kilometers per hour. +/-
Please remove me from your APOD list.
I love it and appreciate the effort you put into it but will search via keyword/title from now on. Thanks!
