OPINION Rush Limbaugh, Healthcare and Idle Threats Threats like his vow to leave the United States lose all meaning if they're not followed through on.

By Joe Queenan April 2, 2010

As the battle over "Obamacare" was reaching fever pitch, Rush Limbaugh threatened to leave the United States if the healthcare bill passed. Well, the bill did pass, and he's still here.

This reminded me of the time one of my friends vowed to change his citizenship and move to Ireland if George W. Bush got reelected. Bush did get reelected, but my friend never left New Jersey. Neither did my friend who said she'd move to France if Bush won a second term. Bush got his second term, but my friend never once budged from her New York apartment.

Her vow to scoop up her marbles and pack it in, just like Mr. Limbaugh's histrionic vow to become an expatriate, fell into the broad, general category of the idle threat.

Ever since I was a child, I have abhorred idle threats. Real threats, like "I'll knock your teeth down your throat if you tell Sister John Laurentia who put the softball through the stained-glass image of St. Anthony of Padua," didn't bother me because they were graphic and implacable and let you know exactly where you stood.

When your premise is flawed, your arguement is pointless.

To paraphrase Mr. Obama - If they bring Limbaugh, we’ll bring a gun.

Media Matters and other such organizations routinely redact and misquote Rush Limbaugh and other conservative radio hosts.

The media does not do their job. They echo Rat talking points built on distortions.

ENOUGH Pravda Media. ENOUGH.

Propaganda does not have to be factual to have impact. That is this guy’s point. Smear Rush and conservatives.

It doesn't matter what Rush really says, or the point he is trying to make, all that matters is what the media thinks he said. It doesn't matter if it's simple things that Rush says or some major thing like health care, the media has no credibility on anything.

They lie, distort and spin, they are like a biased referee that calls it for one team. As a business you would think that with their profits crashing, their viewership and readership leaving in large numbers that any competent business would play it straight and strive to do better for all their customers.

Their answer to this problem is to call a meeting with folks who think like them and then determine that they are doing God's work and that we are the problem.

all that matters is what the media thinks he said

Not quite.

all that matters is what the media want us to think he said.

The media know what he said. They have recordings. But that is a matter of facts. The government media do not deal in facts. They deal in fantasy and manipulaton.

But the left does not even have a working conception of “fact.” The philosophical Left believes that truth is relative. Operationally that evolves into believing that what what they want to be true is true because they want it to be true. Truth is a mental construct and we can change the world by thinking correctly. There are major contradictions and lacuna in this “philosophy” but it is believed in by many of the highest IQs in the world. The first objection to the whole philosophy is well, if it is true then One only has to think something and the whole world will be to one’s design. But they act as if it were only partially true or if they know their thinking processes to be flawed and that they have to force all people to think properly and kill off all who cannot be made to think properly.
