Captain to crew: "What in the hell are they doing?"
Crew: "Shooting at us Captain."
Captain: "Do we have anything small enough to just disable them?"

Definitely proves that latter-day Q-ships would solve the pirate problem!

With Obama as CIC, there was a more than 50% chance that the rules of engagement would require the US Navy to surrender.
So not as stupid as one thinks.

Is the Navy sure this isn’t an extension of the dem party? When stupid is mentioned they’re the first bunch I think of.

What a waste. They should have just destroyed them both, and then filled an incident report. Left the corpses to the sharks.
A few dozen pirates never coming home again would stop the movement dead.WORD.

Damn, I know it'd been overkill, but I'd be damned if I wouldn't have been tempted to use a Tomahawk or whatever they carry on those ships.

Looking up...
The ship has:
One OTO Melara Mk 75 76 mm caliber naval gun
Two Mk 32 triple-tube launchers for Mark 46 torpedoes
One Vulcan Phalanx CIWS
Four .50-cal machine guns.
My bet is they had to use the .50 cals so as not to vaporize the boat.

Hey, for all these jihadists knew, Hussein might have issued orders to not return fire on his fellow Muslim pirates.

Statement: "If you think of the kind of young men who are doing this, they go out into the middle of the ocean in a tiny boat. They might not always make rational decisions, and they often attack things that are bigger than they should (attack)," said Middleton.
Response: A PC way of saying "They ain't too bright!"

So, is the score still Navy 3 — Pirates 0, or has Navy increased its lead?

I was stationed aboard USS Reuben James (FFG-57) from Jan ‘99 to Oct 2000. (I was given early orders to leave for a shore command upon promotion to IS3). This little dialog, real or not, was quite funny! It reminds me of that old transcription of a “conversation” between a lighthouse and a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. If you haven’t heard or read that little gem, look it up. Great stuff.
