Just Say No: The 10 Worst-Sounding New TV Pilots
Yahoo ^ | 3/23/10 | Angel Cohn

We love TV network pilot season because it's filled with such potential. So many shows in their infancy, casting announcements flying around, the anticipation of something new from our favorite showrunners... But while many of the announced pilots already have us praying for full-season pick-ups, there are plenty of others that we hate based on what little we know about them. Here are the potential shows that we hope don't make it to the fall lineup...

I object to all this sex on the television.
I mean - I keep falling off.

That was a strange place to draw the line.

What, for Married With Children? If that's what you mean...when he left the show went downhill fast,IMO.

There can only be one Hawaii Five-O.

Without Jack Lord and his strange hair--it did not move--it is not Hawaii Five-O.

Without those huge, lousy-steering Mercurys barely making it around corners when driven professionally for chase scenes, it is not Hawaii Five-O.

I can truly say that I have not watched one second of the ten shows mentioned

They haven't aired yet, so the rest of us can all make the same claim.

I was so bored by American TV that I ordered a code free DVD player

I've owned one since 2002. It's the only kind of DVD player to own, since it opens the door to a huge amount of movies and tv series that are never released here, or if they are, are badly cut. It is important to get a player that also does a good job of converting from the PAL broadcast standard to NTSC, since most of the world broadcasts some variety of the PAL standard.

Ordering from Amazon UK is just as easy as ordering from any other Amazon outlet. I've also ordered from a Hong Kong source for years without a single wrong order. Usually overseas orders take about 10-14 days, but I once ordered a series from Singapore on Sunday and had it in my hands on Wednesday.

Do you have a make and model of a code free DVD and/or Blu-Ray player? I would love to get my hands on one.

I’ve been wanting to get several series from the UK for years.

By the Sword Divided (English Civil War series from the 80’s)
The entire Richard Sharpe series
Lost In Austen*

* OK, it’s Jane Austen, but it’s Jane Austen with inter-dimensional time travel!!!

Cringeworthy perhaps... but honestly it’s impossible to predict whether a show can work from just the pitch.

Imagine the pitch for Seinfeld, or the Bob Newhart show... and it would’ve sounded like a dud. Everything depends on the subtle mix of cast, chemistry and writing talent. Even the worst premise can be a great show if it’s done right. Likewise the best of premises can be fouled up.

"Former Rebel soldier and his team try to make a near-honest living on the frontier...in SPACE!"

"Man tells his bored teenage children what he did when he was 30"

"Magician's assistant and a dysfunctional journalist. They fight crime"

"Detective gets injured and has hallucination of working with Magnificent Bastard Cop in the past. OR IS IT?"

"Special effects geeks blow stuff up. FOR SCIENCE!"

"Two blokes travel to remote location (river, lake, beach), catch a fish, cook and eat it. And the network pays for it"

Former Rebel soldier gets fired from his spaceship job and becomes a mystery writer partnered with a police detective.

Castle trying on his "Space Cowboy" costume for Halloween. His daughter said "Didn't you wear that five years ago? Don't you think you should move on?"
