According to the LA times, it’s TENS of thousands...and that was before the silly march even started!

[snip]A new proposal has been pushed by Sens. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham, (R-S.C.). There is no bill yet, but the White House has endorsed the initial framework.

The plan would require biometric Social Security cards to ensure that illegal workers cannot get jobs; added border security; a temporary-worker plan and some path to legalization.

The immigration reform issue has been politically difficult for the White House.

In a statement, President Obama praised Schumer and Graham, saying he was pleased to see their “promising, bipartisan framework, which can and should be the basis for moving forward. It thoughtfully addresses the need to shore up our borders and demands accountability from both workers who are here illegally and employers who game the system.”

[snip]SALT LAKE CITY — Cries of “Si se puede!” rang out up and down State Street on Sunday as several thousand people marched in support of immigration reform.

The crowd, mostly dressed in white, gathered at the City & County Building and proceeded up to the State Capitol holding signs, waving flags and carrying a large painting of President Barack Obama.

“The Time is Now! Immigration Reform 2010,” read a banner at the front of the throng. Other signs proclaimed, “Stop the hate,” “We are human beings,” and “Protect our families.”

The Rev. Martin Diaz, pastor of St. Therese Catholic Church in Midvale, said he was proud that the bishop of the Salt Lake City Diocese, the Rev. John Wester, is in Washington, D.C., to join a national march for immigration reform.

“We as the Catholic Church, just like our brothers and sisters in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ... believe in family values,” Diaz said.

“It’s for this reason that we come here today,” he said. “We come here because we believe in each other.”

Anti-immigrant sentiment was limited to a handful of people at the fringes of the crowd registering their opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants.

“Chief Burbank, do your job,” one sign read. “Arrest illegal criminals.”

That t-shirt kinda says it all, doesn’t it? Without millions of shake-and bake voters in November, the Dems are going to lose a lot of seats.

Amazing! Invaders demanding an Amnesty - not favored by most Americans - get more positive coverage from the American media than patriotic Tea Party Americans opposing a law not favored by most American.

About that march in DC right now for AMNESTY. Did the tea partiers get any encouragment??

President Obama sought to reassure those at the rally with a video message presented on giant screens at the National Mall. The president said he was committed to working with Congress this year on a comprehensive bill to fix a “broken immigration system.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Frustrated with the pace of action to overhaul the country’s immigration system, thousands of demonstrators descended on the nation’s capital Sunday, waving American flags and holding homemade signs in English and Spanish. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-us-immigration-march,0,6717332.story
