I had similar problems with a Cannon inkjet and a Lexmark inkjet.
Never could get them to work right after the initial cartridge got low on ink.
The Lexmark had printed a total of about 20 pages when it went bonkers. It had a 60 day warranty (IIRC) and the time had already expired.

I decided to give up on inkjets.
I bought a bit more expensive Minolta PagePro laser (about 6 years ago now). It still operates like a champ, but is only b/w.
On cyberMonday 2008 I bought an Xerox color laser for $150. It, too, works like a champ.

Dump the inkjets. Pay a bit more and get a color laser. They have come down tremendously in price.
It’s worth saving $250 to get this one working if I can. You must have more disposable income than I do!
If so get a different machine. Those print heads are very expensive and I have never had any luck cleaning those.
I wonder if they make a large format laser? A laser would be good for me anyway, since there is a cool process I can do to make transfers on glass with one. (won’t work with inkjet ink).
I was talking with a procurement mgr the other day who happend to mention it would cost $150,000.00 to fill up a 20 gallon gas tank with printer ink.
Could the carriage assembly or mother board. If it means anything, I am working on three Canon 19900’s and a Canon 1800 Banner printer as we speak.

i know this sounds silly but did you remove all the tape off the head of the ink cartridge?
LOL then I won’t do that!
If all else fails you might try reinstalling your printer driver...just to eliminate that as a cause.
Yeah, believe it or not, I actually checked that when the new cartridge didn’t work. Because I have left it on once before, with another printer. I tell you, I am NOT a techie.
If you installed the HP software, there should be an update program. Try running that to make sure the drivers and such are up to date. I suppose it is also possible that you purchased a faulty print cartridge?
Not really...just have to budget my time.
And I have a very low tolerance for non-performing gadgetry.
How old is your printer?
clean copper contacts by rubbing a pencil eraser across them, wipe off excess eraser stuff and reinsert, I am a refiller and we do this to every cartridge
Both above my paygrade. The sad things is my hubby is not a techie either. My sons are, but the darned kids grew up and left home.
Do you have a user’s manual?
Do you have an Internet connection?
Are you logged in?
use a pencil eraser
gently
also, try unplugging printer for a minute
OK, I may have found the problem, altho it makes zero sense to me. I cannot find this printer on my hardware list in my device manager. There is an OLD printer (with an x thru it). I’m going to call techie son and have him walk me thru this. Thank you for the recommendation. I wonder how the drivers uninstalled themselves and left me?!
How large a format?
I know the B-size (11x14”) is available. I’m not sure whether they are color. And they still might be a bit pricey.
Check some of the typical color laser websites: HP, Xerox, Minolta, Konica, Brother.
I learned that from my son, but I got nothing with this particular thing.
