LOL I have to say, it’s why I HATE when I have to print things, because these things just sort of do their own thing. Personally I think they are a communist plot to drive us crazy.
Hmmm. You know, I had another HP that just quit (problem with the paper loading) and I finally tossed it too after the problem could not be diagnosed or fixed. But that was a much cheaper printer, and I’m really tired of this stuff being disposable.
It will not even go thru the cleaning process. It just gives me this error.
Alcohol and lens-cleaning paper, if you've got it.
If you don't have the lens-cleaning paper, use a clean coffee-maker filter.
I guess I have to do that....arrrrhhhhhhhg!

Since I’m a photog I actually do have lens cleaning paper. :)
Another possibility, short-term, is to print with “Microsoft Office Document Image Writer” as your printer selection, then put the file on a thumb-drive or CD and take it to someplace like Kinkos and actually print it there.
Yeah I would remove it from the control panel as hardware and let windows auto detect it. Do you still have the installation software it came with? I would also bet hp has the driver on their website which you can download.
Good. I was afraid you’d say “I don’t have lens paper and I don’t drink coffee”.
I could even send the file to someone to print, but the problem is, I’m working on name tags for our reunion (why did I say yes????) and I need to look at what they are going to print like and make adjustments until they are right. So, that would entail way more than I want to do!
HP has wonderful detailed support. I emailed them so that I could save the email instructions...which I keep in my users manual.
They promptly answered & sent detailed instructions on how to fix the problem. I'm not a computer whiz - but the instructions were very detailed & I quickly solved my problem.

I recall several occasions when I've installed new hardware (printers in particular) where the instructions were generally of the form "Install software from installation disk before connecting device to computer".
Oh gosh, if I didn’t drink coffee I would have tossed this thing out days ago! LOL
This sounds like I need to call my techie son. Why did he have to grow up and leave home??
windows pretty much auto detects all hardware now and installs it

is your printer using a usb connection?
There are companies where you can email your attachments and they will print the documents for you
BTW...the printer was working fine when it just quit—it wasn’t dropped or bumped or had coffee spilled in it or anything....it just quit. I honestly believe there is a pre-programmed death date embedded in the hardware...only HP would know. But again, considering the cost of a new printer amortized over thousands of printed pages, it’s not worth the time to mess with.
