According to the Washington Post, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi now plans to use the "deem and pass" strategy to push through the Senate's healthcare reform bill. The strategy would ask for a House vote on a number of reconciliation fixes to the bill. A passing vote on the reconciliation package--which has been more popular among House members than the bill itself--would then "deem" the Senate bill passed, even without a direct vote on the actual legislation. Critics like Thomas Jefferson Street blogger Peter Roff question the legitimacy of the process. Bloleague Robert Schlesinger thinks it's just silly. Pelosi, however, stands behind the strategy, intent on following through with the Obama administration's promise for healthcare reform.
What do you think? Is "deem and pass" the right strategy? Take our poll and post your thoughts below.
Oh. “Deem and pass”. I like the way they spell it over on Ace of Spades HQ: “DemonPass”.
Can’t wait to hear them make their “I have a DEEM speech!”
Sort of the political equivalent of a “Hail Mary” play. The offensive team quarterback throws the ball in the air, with no particular target, and hopes one of his own snags the ball somewhere in the end zone.
Knockdowns, interceptions, a totally bad aim to where NOBODY could have caught the ball, or even getting called for a penalty for some action nowhere near the quarterback, any one of these could louse up the execution.
But when it works, the turnaround is spectacular.
Our job is to make sure it doesn’t work. The protest jamming of the Capitol switchboard today is one of those tactics.
The one thing they will never get around, is if this is so great, and so needed, and so important, why can’t it pass on a regular vote and have to be passed through trickery?
Why the trickery Nanzi? It’s so desirable yet you have to do it this way and THINK it will give you libs cover? GUESS AGAIN!!!! The party that allows this to happen is the party that will be voted out this November.
FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
Thanks
Should Pelosi Use the “Deem and Pass Strategy” for Health Reform?
A.8.33% Yes
B.91.67% No
So, in Obamaworld, congress doesn’t write its own legislation, they don’t read it, and they don’t even vote on it. It just is.
“Demon Pass”
And the filing of injunctions to stop you, Nanzi, will be stamped and received in the U.S. District Court before you can get it to the White House.
Thats how Chavez operates. Seriously. He proposes it, and it is deemed to have passed without actually passing.
How do you roll back an entitlement...when Obama can veto any bill to overturn it....I think it could be over if they ram this thru !
I tried to vote, but got this - WTF?:

Won’t let me vote. Says I didn’t get there in the right way.
Now 93.3% say NO.
What if there were a lack of quorum? The number of Rats needed to achieve this is the same as would be needed to defeat the reconciliation bill........and it would give those same Rats cover with their constituancies. Of course I’m assuming the GOP could be trusted to walk out also.
I got the same thing.
“Wont let me vote. Says I didnt get there in the right way.”
That is correct. You need to go “left”, then vote.
