ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, The Hollies and the Stooges will become the latest inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, officials said.
Other inductees this year include individual recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award -- record executive David Geffen and songwriters Jeff Barry, Otis Blackwell, Ellie Greenwich, Barry Mann, Mort Shuman, Jesse Stone and Cynthia Weil.
An induction ceremony is set for Monday night at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York.

“The fact that you have never heard of him says more about you than about the R&R Hall of Fame.”
And just what does that say about me?
The Broadway take on ABBA was just the end point of their popular revival which started in the early 1990s when ‘ABBA Gold’ started topping the charts in country after country.
Toto is held in very low esteem by the Rolling Stone critical establishment who run the HOF.
One Hit Wonders, actors who've played rockstars on TV, and part-time session drummers will be next, I'm sure.
“LOL. I think it more speaks to your youth.
Although, Abbas induction into the rock n roll hall of fame sort of supports your thesis.”
I am 52 years old. If you want to consider that youth, then fine.
ABBA is not rock and roll, but they are among the top selling music groups in the world.
I’ll be straight forward with you, I was in high school during the height of their popularity and I’ve always disliked them. I respect your appreciation for this act, but we’ll just have to disagree as to their being true Rock Hall quality.
I hate to break it to you but ABBA is highly regarded by wide sections of the critical establishment and other artists.
Yeah and I came to them apart from that era and just had the records to go on...
I am 52 years old. If you want to consider that youth, then fine.

I confess I’m surprised.
I’ll be 52 is a couple of months. What were you listening to in the 70s that you totally missed Jimmy Cliff?
You are a dancing queen.
I’m telling the truth. You’re engaging in name calling.
I didn’t say there weren’t different kinds of pop music. but they are all pop music nonetheless.

So ABBA’s type of pop music is appropriate to the RnR hall of fame, but Bill Monroe’s isn’t?
Why pick Bill Monroe?
I think he is as far away from rock n roll as ABBA is.
JMO.
How do you leave Journey out as well?
Monroe is in as an ‘early influence’
But, for what it's worth, I wasn't referring to ABBA when I said "bottom of the barrel". I think that they'd be better off picking one (maybe two, one "still around" and another "defunct") band.....rather than just saying "Hey, who's not in here yet?" and trying to build a cool show.
And, more specifically, any shred of regard that I had for RnR HoF got tossed when they inducted Van Halen, and only two of the members (and none named Van Halen) showed up to play. I liked Van Halen when I was kid, not so much any more.
You’re a Journey fan and knocking ABBA? LOL
“Production” is indeed slick in today’s pop music, but instrumental and vocal talent is lacking. For example, most rappers and hip-hoppers are totally lacking in musical ability.
Just like Obamao, you have reached your Waterloo.
