Pittsburgh is a leading contender to host the 2011 NHL Winter Classic, which could pit rival league superstars Sidney Crosby of the Penguins and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals in a New Year's Day outdoor hockey game at Heinz Field or PNC Park.
"The NHL wants to spread around the wealth because this game has become such a big event that cities and teams are making pitches for it," Nielsen Sports vice president Stephen Master said. "But there is no negative at all to Pittsburgh being a part of it again - not with Crosby in Pittsburgh."

The Steelers also have expressed interest in playing the game at Heinz Field, according to communications coordinator Dave Lockett. Virtually all of Heinz Field's approximately 65,000 seats could be used for the Classic

Either stadium, what a beautiful view that would be with the city in the background.
As long as the officials don’t hand a game misconduct to either Sid or Ovechkin. That was pathetic today.
The Washington Capitals (East) and Chicago Blackhawks (West) are the teams to beat this year.
The call against Ovechkin was closer to a game misconduct than the call against Adams yesterday.
That being said, neither one was worthy of a game misconduct,IMHO. Just as the hit on Savard from Cooke wasn’t.
Look for some major waffling BS from the NHL head office in the days to come.
Exactly. As Millbury said, the league is getting soft. Play squash if you can't take it.
Can't wait to hear Bettman's bloviating on this weekend's fun.
I'm a Hershey Bears season ticket holder, so I have to disagree with you.
While the Caps are running away with their division, Hershey is doing the same in the AHL.
The only weakness I see with the Caps is goaltending.
Theodore is solid, but both Varlamov and Neuvirth are questionable.
Hershey has a 20 year old, Braden Holtby, that looks to me to be a future NHL superstar.
I was in Charleston, SC on business a few weeks ago and the client took us to the Stingrays game Vs. Toledo. The Stingrays will be sending a few decent players to Hershey from what I saw.

As they have in the past.
I think there’s a San Antonio farm team for SC that’s got some up and coming talent also.
The Hershey Bears are currently on a 24 game home win streak. Next home game is March 19 against the Albany River Rats.
This (active) winning streak is already a record for the most home wins in all of professional hockey, going back to the old IHL.
And for the $21 a game I pay for center ice tickets, to see a high quality team with 101 points already, you can’t beat the price!
That's for sure. The CBJ have been killing me, but I still go. Watching Nash get the gold was great, but when he came back to Columbus it was same old, same old.
I will be willing to correct myself. The defense problems were addressed. The goaltending depends on Theordore being steady. When he's good, he's great.
Just what the NHL needs. More special treatment for Pittsburgh. Gary Bettman’s favorite team.
I have all 40 home game tickets as part of my season ticket package. but I’m with you wishing the Hershey Bears had more games shown on TV.
AHL games on TV would be a good sell for both fans, networks (who should get broadcast rights at a bargain) and hockey in general.
I feel your pain!
Malkin is in the worst slump of his career, after earning playoff MVP.
NHL teams would never divulge the truth (rightfully so) but I wonder if there isn’t something wrong with Geno.
Mom and Dad Malkin were missing in action..never fear they are coming back and Geno is going to get an ass whipping!!!
