In Europe they celebrate PI day on 22 July. I am not sure I get this. The only thing I can figure out is that 22 divided by 7 is a close approximation to pi. Some other explanation?

You got it. In Europe they specify dates as day/month, so we write 3-14, they write 22/7. Those Europeens are sooo much more sophisticated.
