SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A late-night confession by Utah's House majority leader about sitting nude in a hot tub with a minor 25 years ago has shocked this conservative state's political establishment but has not prompted calls from party leaders for him to resign.
Rep. Kevin Garn, 55, acknowledged the indiscretion late Thursday immediately after the Legislature adjourned for the session. He said he paid the woman, Cheryl Maher, now 40, $150,000 to keep quiet about the episode when he unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2002.

Being an astronaut he was just showing her, you know, water best exemplifies zero gravity. Or, maybe he was just fishing for a wife. Which, I suppose in Utah wouldn’t be that bad.
Anyways, I suppose it was the photos she produced of him next to a cooler of Natty Ice that he was paying off on.
City Weekly reported on Friday that Cheryl Maher told it that Garn — who is now the Utah House majority leader — is lying when he denied any touching or intercourse in that tub when she was just 15 years old and he was 28 and married.
Maher was hesitant to give her own version of events when she spoke to City Weekly but said, "Let's just say this. He really loves to massage." She added that Garn had been her LDS Sunday School teacher years before the incident and was her employer at the time it occurred in 1985. "I was in love with him," she said.
