Time to put those snake-stalking skills to work. State wildlife officials have created a special python hunting season to try to stop the spread of the nonnative snakes throughout the Everglades and the hunting begins today.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says anyone with a hunting license who pays a $26 permit fee can kill the reptiles from today to April 17 on state-managed lands around the Everglades in South Florida.
The season is open for Burmese and Indian pythons, African rock pythons, green anacondas and Nile monitor lizards.
Thousands of the nonnative Burmese pythons are believed to be in the region, upsetting the natural balance of the ecosystem.
For those new to the hunt, the state has held workshops on how to identify, stalk, capture and remove the reptiles.

Forget the snakes, I will take the S.W 357 Mag. That is one beautiful firearm, too be S/W quit making the Python.I know the reason, too much hand work by talented gunsmiths. Cannot compete with the stamped out junk on the marked today.

Those nasty reptiles give me the creeps, big-time.My sentiments exactly. I hope they have a very successful season.

Is it against the law to kill these critters w/o a license or out of season?

What about shotguns? I dunno. They're just big snakes. My guess is it's not like knocking some little birdie on the wing down with a couple of pellets, I'd expect you'd have to get pretty close and really blast them with a headful of buck.
I'd be willing to give it a try, though.
