Stupid city person question here: Can hens lay eggs without roosters being around? I'm serious (series) here, I really don't know.

Roosters are useless feeders unless you’re wanting to breed your own chicks.
Once a hen reaches maturity (about 9 months old) she lays an egg once every 72 hours or so, whether she is fertilized or not.
It’s just like a human female releasing an egg every 28-30 days, but with a quicker turnaround time, LOL! (And hens aren’t so crabby about the process!)
