In an unusual twist, you can find the occasional zealot who enjoys sticking cloves in spam and baking it.

You knew my mother?
To this day I have an involuntary physical reaction at the mere mention of the dreaded product...UGH.

Don’t think I ever had Spam with cloves in it. Mom usually fried it or used it in some kind of noodle casserole. When you’re hungry and there’s nothing else around, you’ll eat anything.

When my wife and I were poor, young, married college students, she used to cook spam, “glaze” it (with ketchup), and try to get me to carve it, so we could pretend we were eating ham. But then, she also tried to get me to eat fried bologna. The smell sent me sprinting to the vomitorium.

I soon bought a small charcoal grill and learned how to use it, and told her to eat her ground beef “steak”, and her grilled “sausage”.

Much later, long after college, I became the primary main course cook. She did fine with some side dishes and deserts.
