Tom Hanks Mocks Rove's New Book

Who cares? Tom Hanks' opinion of Rove's book is of no more interest than Rove's opinion of Hanks' latest flick. Hanks is an actor - good at times ("Saving Private Ryan", parts of "Forrest Gump"), but his rep as an actor mostly seems to be based on the inordinate number of crying scenes he does ("Philadelphia", parts of "Forrest Gump", "Cast Away"). The man certainly can cry - that and his height might be the only reasons his "Bosom Buddies" pal Peter Scolari didn't end up the big movie star.

I think we’d be a lot better off with Wilson in the White House.

Actually, I have watched Christian films and listened to Crhistian music and like them both. But to be honest, sticking with one type of entertainment is boring to me. I love films of various genres, particularly the older ones, and I have wide ranging tastes in music too. For me, it’s about being exposed to all sorts of entertainment. Now there are some things I don’t like (I’m not going to go for smut, for example), but I don’t have to be entertained solely by those with the “correct agenda.”

It’s possible to enjoy the music, art, movies, etc. without being sucked in by the “agenda,” if indeed there is one. There are those who find an “agneda” in everything, and that’s unfortunate. You can miss out on some seriously good art and entertainment that way.

He you don’t have to disparage Wilson—he didn’t do nothing ;) Besides, I’ve heard he has a lot more wisdom than Hanks.

I've heard he's conservative.

I was objecting to the part calling Ms. Wilson a “whore.” Seems that for some people it’s easy to call the woman a “whore,” but say nothing about the man’s participation in the affair. If it was just Ms. Wilson, it would not have been adult. Kinda hard to have an affair when there is only one person being unfaithful.

You’re right. All three movies have been on more than a dozen times, some within the last few months. I blame that on the tv stations’ very small library. They must not have much else to show. That may be due to cable or satellite, movies on demand, DVDs and the like. People don’t have to wait for the tv stations to play good movies; they can get their own.

???

The poster said, first, that he/she had lost all respect for Hanks because of the affair.

Admittedly, that doesn't have the snappy ring of "whore," but your contention that she gave the man a pass is incorrect.

maybe you're speaking about in society in general, but if that's the case, what did you expect?

Although this thread has aged just a bit -- lest anything get the idea that I recommend only Christian films, I've got to mention a secular film that may be among my favorites and features a good man (both the actor himself and the role he plays). From 1983, it's Robert Duvall and Tess Harper's performance in ``Tender Mercies''. It's a gentle, heartwarming story -- but please don't call it a ``chick flick''. :-)

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you have the chance, maybe give it a look. And you can keep the children in the room as the story unfolds.

Thanks for the recommend [of Tender Mercies].

Seriously...let me know what you think. I don't want to come off like I'm hyping that movie and you may utterly hate it as one of my friends did who said it was the most boring thing he'd ever seen put on celluloid.

On the other hand, another friend liked it so much that he bought the DVD and makes a point to watch it about every 6 months with his wife and kids. IMHO, it's FR-type-of-film, good values, Robert Duval, Texas, country music and quality acting in an uplifting story. YMMV. Void where prohibited. Prices may vary. Consult your doctor before using. No animals were harmed.
