1) I hope you’re armed.
2) When are you moving?

Alas, many of us go through similar situations. My neighborhood is on the decline (thanks to liberalism and the entitlement mentality), and it’s not unusual, especially in the summer, to hear gunfire somewhere up the street. Several weeks ago, a dead body was found under the back porch of a duplex that adjoins my backyard. And yes, we have home invasions (which is one of many reasons why I won’t answer the census — don’t want anyone to know I live alone so they can invade my house).

I’d like to get out of here, but fact is you can have these crimes just about anywhere, even in the so-called better comunities.

LOL... nope, not moving... it’s really a nice neighborhood, overall, and once in a while, you might get a bad neighbor (it was a rental property next door; we know the landlord and called him right away when it was going down...). I imagine he’ll be getting them out of there pretty soon.

And armed, yes..., but I’ve never been worried about them, personally... and the police don’t scare me, so I’m not worried.

Scary stuff though. No?

I witnessed a similar thing years ago where I lived, copmplete with the “get back inside!”.

That’s when you start looking at your walls and thinking “vinyl siding, 1/2” sheathing, some drywall...”

We moved a few years later, and we’re happy where we are now.

Sometimes it just ain’t worth it.

That was "one" police raid, for those particular neighbors, and nothing like that before in this neighborhood. It's a rental property and the property owner (next door) got a bad one... so I think he'll be more careful and we've talked to him too, about it. :-)

The other raids that I was talking about were from two different areas, both of them in Portland, Oregon and many years ago. I've seen three "big raids" with multiple policemen rushing a place. This one would be the third one (and that's over a 25 year period of time).

They headed over towards our front steps of the front porch

I got a very curt "Get back inside!"

They trespassed on your property and started ordering you around?

Freakin' thugs. Sue 'em.

In my old ‘hood, we also enjoyed our own “aurora borealis” (the police chopper’s searchlight) on a pretty regular basis in the warm weather.

Not too easy to sleep through that. They’re low, and they’re a lot of noise, and the lights are very powerful.

Kinda like the beginning of an alien abduction sequence in the movies. :)

A funny thing was that guy was standing back there and we had four weenie dogs (of ours) barking their heads off at him (about ten feet from him on our side of the fence) and so I yelled at them to stop it and get back inside and they all came back inside... LOL...

Glad to hear your dogs survived. That's rare these days.

Well, for me, it wasn't so much. I've had a lot of dealings with the police before (I don't mean as a criminal, either... LOL...). I've managed big properties before and have had to call them on numerous occasions and have dealt with them a lot. I've been in many other situations where the police come in with their guns drawn, when I've called them and there's someone threatening another person with a knife for example.

I've been standing there, within a couple of feet of policemen, when they were attacked with a knife that a guy had on him and they all go tumbling right in front of me.

I've had to let them into buildings when they are rushing the place, when they've got their guns out. They seem to know (most of the time) who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.

One time (the time I was mentioning when there was a big bust next door to me that I called them about), I had someone breaking into my garage and I called the police and I was outside in the back alley, looking around for the guy, when the police came up behind me (I didn't hear them) and they said something to me and I jumped. I noticed they had the gun on me at the time, when I turned around when they spoke to me. They sorted it out real quick that I was the guy who called them and they just said for me to get back inside the house. ... :-)

Of course, when I called them, they did say to stay inside the house, but I was mad that someone had broken into my garage and I was goig outside to see if I could see the guy around somehwere... and that's when the policeman came up behind me and I didn't see him.

I guess I don't get scared like that much anymore... :-)

You guys all joke but the 4,500 sq. foot house with marble entry floors and granite bathroom countertops next to mine was raided last week because the occupants (renters) are involved in fraud/identity theft. I was surprised it was “only” fraud since there were swat guys with assault rifles all over the place.

This crap is happening everywhere and even ‘nice’ neighborhoods are being used since they are more low key.

If it is a meth house, you need to be careful regarding the flammable chemicals that may be in the sheet rock. That house could be a time bomb. Demand that the city check it out for safety reasons. Call you HOA,council person, state senators, have your local paper come out there. Do whatever you can to get the city come out and test the place.
Location for meth labs have moved to all neighborhoods. In Texas the sellers disclosure (when selling a property) must disclose if the owner is aware of any production of meth in or on the property

That's true, you can. And this neighborhood is not one of those declining ones. The people around here in Tulsa know that the Brookside area is not a declining area. It's south and south is better in Tulsa than "north"... that's for sure... :-)

Just last week, over in the "Southern Hills" area (a good area too) a Sonic drive-in burger place was robbed. The guy shot his way in (the door was locked) and robbed the place). That's not too far from us. And also, the Braum's Ice Cream/hamburger place close to us was robbed, too.

Again, not a bad neighborhood, and it can happen anywhere. And these robberies were with the gun out and in the Sonic, as I said, the guy (the same one in both places) shot his way into the place.

So, you just never know...

We’re talking to the owner/landlord for the place and letting him know all the details. We’ve known him for a while, so we’ll be able to check on it, through him. He’ll be the one taking care of it, of course.

Yes it is all over the place. I've always seen and heard of this sort of thing being all over the place, anyway... but as crime gets to be more rampant, it seems that it's more all over the place now...

Yep, I saw it on the news the other day. That’s north Tulsa and that’s the part of Tulsa that you don’t want to live in... :-)

We’re “way south” of that area... LOL...
