Pointy Head, that’s an interesting post. I’d be grateful if you could share your sources for the identification of Vincent you suggest, because that’s not something I’ve ever read before. I’m not questioning your claim, so please don’t feel insulted - I’d just love to research this issue further. For one thing - I’m still not exactly sure which head you are saying is Vincent’s - but I’m assuming you’re referring to the head that appears to have a hand growing out of it? The Toulouse-Lautrec link you provided was excellent, many thanks for that.
I wish I had used the word 'suggestion' or 'possibility', rather than sounding so definitive. Yes, the one with the hand growing out of his head. If ANYONE is Van Gogh in this picture, HE comes the closest to looking like him - not the one crouching at the easel (as someone else online has suggested). The hairline gives me a problem, though (even the shape of it). However, in '85/'86 Van Gogh was 32/33, still young enough to not yet have a receding hairline. But I'm really wavering now, on thinking it was him.
In the Atelier Cormon photograph, I've been able to find the names of several others of the students - but from a different photograph (here or here), taken on the same day (I think). (Toulouse-Lautrec is in both photos.)
