LIVE BLOG: Team USA 6, Finland 0 (2nd period)
(Excerpt) Read more at sportsillustrated.cnn.com ...
NBC has said the Gold Medal game would be televised live to the WHOLE US (for once). If Slovakia wins, I doubt that’ll be the case.
I’m showing 3:15 ET Sunday for US v Canada for the gold.
Canada escapes! The Gold Metal Game that we all wanted to see. USA/Canada or Canada/USA. Sunday 3pm EST on NBC . Should be a so-so game at worst. Canada is a major fav I would think.
Not the way they played today. USA will destroy us.
Terrible game for Canada.
Yahoo! Border War, Part Deux!! This one’s for all the marbles!
gold medal I meant to post.
We need to win, Canada is eating our bacon when it comes to the Gold Medal count.
I kindly disagree, Canada faced up with one of those teams that had a Cinderella quality to them and it almost worked. If there had been some time left we coild have have had an upset for the ages.
Sometimes it just looks like your team plays poorly.
I wasn’t satisfied with their drive or their strategy. They seemed content to simply grind out the game and that should have cost them tonight.
It won’t be good enough against USA.
coild have have had an upset for the ages.= could have had an upset for the ages.
errr. typing and watching the TV at a right angle.
GO USA. Bring home the Gold!
Another spoiler if everyone hasn’t heard yet. Speed skating. Go to upper right at this link.
We shall see which team most wants the Gold. Hope that both teams bring their best effort(and then some)and make this upcoming game one for the ages.
I thought it was classy in the extreme for the Canadian fans, after the US Women received their silver medal, to chant “USA! USA! USA!” last night. I know they were ecstatic in the win for their team on home ice, but that showed great sportsmanship by the fans.
I wonder if they’d do the same thing for the Men’s game?
I also wonder if we realize how big this game is up there. Business in Canada, for about three hours this Sunday, will STOP. There will be very few people who WON’T be watching this game. For us, it’s a gold medal opportunity with bragging rights. For them, nothing less than national pride is on the line. THIS medal is the ONE they absolutely WANT to win.
Not only that, but I think their “Own the Podium” campaign was technically a success. I mean, at this point in time WE have the most medals. But who has the most GOLD medals? Yep...Canada. Of course, this may change: There are 9 medals left to award- 5 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.
Canada is playing outright for 2 Gold medals, one of which WE are not (men’s curling and men’s hockey).
The US and Canada are 1 and 2 in the 4-man bobsled.
Canada isn’t expected to do that well in the men’s slalom, but the US DOES have a chance in Ted Ligety and Bode Miller.
Men’s Parallel Giant Slalom snowboard...that’s a tossup.
And there are the men’s and women’s Speedskating Pursuit finals tomorrow.
There are also a couple cross-country skiing races, but you pretty much throw those to the Scandinavian countries, the Germans, or the Russians.
Not only that, but if we win 2 more medals, we’ll have tied Germany’s all-time medal take for a Winter Games...Three, and we own the record.
Makes the next 48 hours a bit exciting, no?
Canada just won the mens curling gold and now has 13 Gold which I think now makes them uncatchable in the Gold medal total. I guess when you are at the top of the podium the most times you do sort of own it.
According to the main announcer here in Canada with 13 Gold it has tied the record for most Gold medals in a single winter Olympics. 13 Gold has been accomplished twice before from what I could tell. Once by Norway (2002) and once by the Soviet Union (1976). Also with the 13 Canada has set a new standard for a host nation Gold medal total. Of course these games have more events and opportunities than in the past but it’s still pretty impressive. Two more events to go with of course the mens hockey destined to probably break tv watching records in Canada tomorrow.
