Childress: Vikings OK waiting on Favre’s decision

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Minnesota coach Brad Childress knows one way to get a definitive answer from Brett Favre(notes).

Wait.

“I’m not going to put him in any box,” Childress said Friday at the NFL’s annual scouting combine. “Four weeks and change, he’s still healing up from that game (the NFC championship). He’s kind of earned that latitude.”

Whether the three-time MVP needs a month or an entire offseason .. Childress isn’t pressing the issue. He spoke with Favre twice this week, but football was not the primary topic.

Instead, the three-time league MVP was busy putting down fresh limestone on a road that leads to his mother-in-law’s house, which is on Favre’s property in Mississippi.

As a Vikings fan, I was prepared to NOT like Favre. He won me over with:
1) Poking fun at himself in the Sears commercials
2) After beating the Packers (yes!!), the sideline reporter kept trying to get him to trash the Packers, say something about revenge and Favre wouldn't do it—he was very respectful
3) He is a great QB!!

Right up until the end it was fun to be a Vikings fan, and that doesn't happen during too many seasons.
Oh, and
4) Even though he is mega-rich, he's working on his mother-in-law’s driveway instead of hiring it out

I don’t about McNabb.. altho the Vikes had Randall Cunningham way back when..

If Favre comes back, he needs to get his legs in better shape..

I’d use him as a rushing QB and if him and AP didn’t kick butt, then make his a safety or running back or sumthin’..

As a Saints fan, it has been “next year” for about 40 years. They had to beat or entice to beat themselves some pretty big names: Warner, Favre, Manning.

There is talk of Tebow falling to the bottom of the second round, where the Saints would give him a shot. The complaints about him are the same ones people had about Brees. I would hope they’d make a tight end out of him, but it should at least make the draft amusing.

Favre fell for the same trap that Manning did two weeks later, yet you do not hear about the latter being a loser. The Vikings made a heck of a run of it.

And that is exactly why it will be so much fun to watch...Favre pulled this crap on the Pack for years and when we finally went and drafted QB’s to be our backups for Rodgers he decides he wants in.

Oh it would be fun to see the Vikes left with TJax and Rosenfelds after this whole thing blows up in their face :)

Oh goody, the Favre haters have something new to whine about. And no matter how much they whined this past season, Brett still had a great season.....how dare he!

He’ll be back—by early May. Don’t be surprised that Favre shows up for minicamp primarily almost in a coaching-like position.

If Favre doesn’t come back, is there a better option out there than McNabb? Jason Campbell would probably be available, but he’s never shown any consistency. And there are no quarterbacks coming out of college this year who look like they are immediate starters.

I find it interesting that Favre continues to outplay Rodgers even at age 40.

Besides Grossman (and I’m taking liberty there), I can’t remember one Florida QB whose had a significant impact on the NFL going back to Crybaby Spurrier days. Most wash out.

Oh c'mon - what about Danny Wuerfel??? /sarcasm

I think Tebow will ultimately have success because he possesses the intangibles, which can’t be taught.

All he lacks are the mechanics, which can.

I would want Tebow on my team and in my locker room no matter what. Even if he rides the pines and gives high-fives, he will be an asset to anyone who drafts him.

Tight end, linebacker whatever, but he, IMHO, isn’t an NFL QB..

Let the hornheads have fun putting up with the Prima Donna’s bullcrap.

At least we know that our guy (Rodgers) is a team player.

<><><><><><

LOL.

And I bet those grapes would have tasted bad anyway.

So you’d rather have a team player and be one and done in the wildcard round rather than having Favre take you to the NFC championship game.

Sorry, I call BS :-)

Rodgers had a helluva year. His percentage rate was the best in Packer stats since Bart Starr.

Given this is Rodger's second year, and had virtually on offensive line for the first half of the season, he had a great year.

I think most Packer fans are happy to have Rodgers over Favre.

Cheers!

Rodgers is a very good NFL QB. I’m very bullish on his career.

But I still think the Packers made a mistake by not allowing Favre to return. He can obviously still play, and his teams have finished better than Green Bay each of the past two years. They likely have fared better last year with Brett under center. This year may have been a wash.

Going forward I think Rodgers and the Pack will be dangerous for my Cowboys.

Should be a fun season to watch.

That's what makes the NFL so much fun. Everyone has a shot.
