I found this video VERY interesting. It now becomes apparent that despite what SeaWorld says the trainer DID get into the water with the Orca. They have denied this happened. And they claim it is against policy. She is smiling widely.
The video ends seconds before he grabs her.
Some news sources have a still of the trainer in the water with the killer whale ... but now the video.
I know many will not agree with me, but I think it is barbaric to treat animals like this.

Wow, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the ping to the video and more of your thoughts :)
Amen
You really don’t belong on this site.
I’ll bet someone has raw video of the event and is negotiating with TMZ right now.
So many cameras... so many phones... it will surface.
“”””That critter is a lot smarter than any reptile and a lot more lethal.””””””
I don’t know about that.
I can thumb my nose at that critter as long as I am away from the water. But you know, a crocodile will run up out of the water. So I would rather be in company of a whale.
But not in the water with one, thats just stupid.
This is heartbreaking. But look at this. She is alone playing with a killer whale. Having “fun.” If there is a mistake here, it’s these people actually start to believe they are special. That their animal loves them and trusts them. People like this actually no longer respect the whale for what it actually is. They reduce it to a little cartoon character. It is a wild beast. It performs tricks because it gets fed to do so. Stop feeding it and see how far your circus lasts. See how well your cuddly teddy bear continues to love you.
I just read an article of the photographer of this video. He was RI on a birthday trip for his 10 year old son.
He said that as he was turning off the camera, it happened ... so just seconds after the shot of her with her hair in the water.
He said whale kept her underwater for 3 whole minutes. I had not heard that and won’’t at how good he is at gauging time.
Not Tilikum. Tilikum had killed and was massive in size compared to the other orcas.
Very possible. Or perhaps more likely just confused and unhappy that his usual playmate has gone missing. I'm guessing that as a much older and more experienced trainer than most, she was probably the main, if not the only trainer who regularly interacted with this whale who was known to have killed a trainer before. I'm not at all sure he'd understand that she's dead, especially since I don't think he intended to kill her. But I'm sure they recognize that they need to be on the lookout for psychological effects in Tillikum, of the disappearance of his trainer and resulting change in his routine. I can see where he might get upset about the substitution of the "wrong" trainer, and get an urge to be aggressive towards the trainer.
I was glad to see the New York Times article where it said that SeaWorld has no plans to isolate Tillikum. They seem to be taking the wise attitude that "WE did something wrong, and need to figure out what it was", and not trying to blame the whale.
Re trainers wearing small air tanks, I can see how that would make it harder for them to interact with the whales, since their interaction normally includes a lot of talking, and it may be important for the whales to hear their voices. And certainly it wouldn't be good for the show to have trainers faces partially obscured, and the hosting trainers unable to speak into a microphone. Also, in the case of the first trainer this whale killed, they weren't able to get to her body for hours IIRC, so it would have required a huge air tank to save her.
I agree with you. Whales belong in the wild (and free from harpoons too).
Yes. I pointed this out awhile back. At the end she is in the water with an Orca despite all the material in the news, but do we know which Orca she is with in the video?
It was taken at Sea World a few years back. It is a near-miss event with an Orca. If anyone wants the link, let me know.
This is a case where officials and employees of Sew World should be called to a grand jury considering criminal charges of at least manslaughter.
Additionally, any animal who kills a human should be killed.
“Sea World”
Bravo for this post!!
I have seen quite a few news postings where Sea World says the trainers were not to be in the water with this whale at least.
In the filn she is with Tilikum, the whale who killed her just seconds after the last frames.
Seaworld says that he was the only Orca that was not allowed to perform but that trainers were allowed to shout commands from him from the edge of the pool.
But she is in the shallow part of the pool ... and her hair is in the water. This is the last shot of her.
As I mentioned on another thread we frown on training “dancing bears” and have banned using whips to get lions up on pedistals.
What do we allow the same type of traing on other mannals just because they swim in the water?
In the wild, Orcas swim from 60 to 100 miles a day. But Tilikum is in a TINY pool.
He is known for his testosterone, his mating, his size and had sired 17 pups. They don’t want to give up a breeder.
