It appears that I am a “hit and run” victim.

think that anti-intellectualism marginalizes an important part of American society, and I think it's destructive.

Obviously, you subscribe to the fallacy that conservatives are not educated. You could not be more wrong.

The difference between educated conservatives and liberals is that the conservatives completed their academic requirements and went out into the cold, cruel world to become productive citizens. We never stopped learning along the way either.

The liberal "intellectuals" to which you refer obviously never left the sheltered existence of academia, lest perhaps to transfer over into another comfortable liberal hive such as government or media employment.

Liberal ignorance is destructive, and no amount of make-believe intellectualism will improve your condition.

I was once a liberal too.
1. I was pro-choice until I spent some time in a neo-natal intensive care unit. That changed my opinion forever.
2. I have always supported gun rights.
3. I want less government not more, I do not trust the government to serve our best interests. When I was younger and more idealistic it made me feel safer to think that the government was always there to help. I didn’t see that the help came with so many strings that I was losing my freedom.
4. I thought what I’d been taught in school about our government and our reputation around the world was true - until I spent some time living in Europe, and I spent more time reading books that my teachers had failed to mention.

As I got older I realized that I trust myself and my own values more than I trust any government.

I hope for you that you find your way as well.

I do not believe it will be a slow motion debate. It looks like a drive by to me. If he is an academic like he claims, he should find the time to engage or not waste our time.

So then you're part of the instant gratification generation? Need it now, now, now... right now...

"We, Americans, conservative and liberal, need to figure out our own compromises, because our media and our politicians sure as taxes won't do it for us. Like it or not, we're in it together."

No. We are not in this together. We are diametrically opposed. There is no compromise between our positions that would be sufferable. We cannot be friends and we will not be allies. Ever... There can be no compromise between freedom and slavery to an individual, group, state or collective.

Not instant gratification, but common surties. You do not start a conversation and just walk away, that is not polite. Ame with posting, do not post and run away.

It is our right and duty as Americans to vehemently disagree with each other about how this nation should be governed. It is also our right to call into question the patriotism of those with whom we disagree, but it is our duty not to. It was patriotic to protest the government four years ago, and it is patriotic now. I thank you for this patriotism...

Couldn't even get throught the first paragraph...

It is your right to vehemently disagree, it is not your duty...you are free to agree or not, or speak up, or not.

I support the constitution. I support second amendment rights as well as first amendment rights. I think that it is necessary and good that a court interpret these amendments, but I am as appalled by the notion of a free speech zone as I was by DC's handgun ban. I'm angry about the recent encroachment against the fourth amendment, and the steady erosion of the tenth...

You can call yourself a liberal, or a ballerina, or a potted plant. Our experience with liberals contradicts your assertions.

I am a liberal. I don't think Obama is more tyrannical or arrogant than past presidents. I think a government health-care option would be good for Americans...

We, on the other hand, know that there's no problem that can't be made worse by more government.

On the other hand I think that the Iraq war was a catastrophic mistake that America won't live down in my lifetime. It weakened America financially, diplomatically and militarily. So, I am very much a liberal. Still, I think we have some common ground...

We were weakened by liberal demagogery, political theater, and the Baghdad Jims on the left.

It takes academics, entrepreneurs, and factory workers to make a plane fly, and it takes all of us to make the right decisions for America. I think that anti-intellectualism marginalizes an important part of American society, and I think it's destructive...

Again, disingenuous...it seems to be a liberal thing. No reasonable person denies that it takes engineers and draftsmen and technicians and machinists to build an airplane. To say that much of what is suggested by 'intellectuals' is nonsense, is not anti-intellectualism; it's quite the opposite.

For example, you say you're in support of a government option for health insurance. We can clearly see that it's a Trojan Horse for a federal takeover of medical care. Politicians on the left have said so. Health care will be irreversibly politicized.

Yet, the Boy Pharaoh says we'll have greater coverage at lower cost. It's not anti-intellectualism to listen to that, and conclude again, "It won't fly."

'Intellectuals' are acting in an anti-intellectual manner. No aerospace engineer would assert that a plane can by made to fly better by adding ballast to it. He would not say so, for he would risk being laughed out of the building.

Yet, the large brain types say that raising the tax burden will not slow down economic activity; socializing the costs of health care will not increase the cost; and that the same science that 30 years ago 'proved' pollution would cause global winter, 'proved' ten years ago that it would cause global warming, and now proves 'climate change.'

That won't fly, either.

Consider why, when we hear a particularly hair-brained idea, we conclude that it's so nonsensical, it must have come from an 'intellectual.'

It's not that conservatives are anti-intellectual; it's that we have enough experience in our personal lives with 'experts' to have a healthy skepticism of their value.

Conservatives aren't giving intellectualism a bad name; 'intellectuals' are.

“You certainly have a deficit in comprehension.”

You are assuming that you sent your message effectively. I disagree. Your reference was beyond the pale, imho.

Fine... you are welcome to your opinion... I am free to disregard the same. I hope that we can agree upon that.

I hope you realize that some things are mutually exclusive. Conservatives cannot compromise between life and death.

We are morally obligated to protect babies and children and to defend people from terrorists who seek the destruction and domination of life, any life, as an end in itself.

If you assist or allow for the destruction of innocent lives than we have nothing more to discuss. Understood?

You do have a right to believe this. You also have a right to be an idiot;....We come here to get away from your ignorant puke. Please go to Hell, and leave America where you found her. You are no more an American patriot than was Stalin. You want socialism and daily gummint ass-reamings, move to France or Haiti. I hear it's real nice this time of year.

Perhaps he/she has been growing disenchanted with liberalism and is making a soujourn to explore and maybe convert to the other side. Way to make sure that won't happen. Read some Dale Carnegie before your death only discovered after your neighbors smell something unpleasant.

The poster stated up front that they would be back tomorrow to respond. I don’t find that too difficult to understand, and it doesn’t bother me that I’ll have to wait for a response.

If abortion is murder, then there is no question that it should be banned at the federal level.

Murder is a crime regulated by the laws of the various States.

But hey, I couldn't expect you to know any better, being a flaming liberal and all.

ZOT!
