If you haven't seen it, go see "Miracle":

"Miracle is a 2004 American biographical sports film about the United States men's hockey team, led by head coach Herb Brooks, that won the gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The USA team's victory over the heavily favored Soviet team in the medal round was dubbed the Miracle on Ice. Miracle was directed by Gavin O'Connor and written by Eric Guggenheim."

I saw the Soviet team make minced meat out of the New York Rangers that year (and the Rangers were a good team). No one is going to EVER convince me that the Soviets didn’t throw that game in order to try (unsuccessfully) to get us to go to the Moscow Olympics that summer.

Many forget that this was an all or nothing match for the US team. If team USA lost there were no medals in their future thanks to an earlier loss.

That was quite a game. And Mondale was there, some connection with the 1960 team.
