Ahhh, Glenn... We Never Knew Ye...
February 22, 2010 | Gargantua

There exists the possibility that every person who ever ran for a national government office, be they Senator, Representative, or President, were all intrinsically and incurably evil since childhood. The greater probability, however, is that they started out in life as fairly ordinary people. People who, once they got to D.C. and became part of The Machine, it picked away at their charity, nibbled at the edges of their decency, and eventually completely consumed their integrity.

This would explain why they all seem to be reprobate, lying, scheming trash who care little if anything for those whom they were sent to “represent,” and care only about lining their own pockets to ensure getting re-elected. When ambition becomes avarice, it makes any number of lies, evasions, and justifications seem honorable. It also stands on its head the very process it would otherwise have chosen to serve.

Were this phenomenon of the “Mysteriously Transforming Humans” the sole province of the Beltway Banditry, our plight would be so much less grave. The truth is that this propensity for power to corrupt transcends the hallowed halls of Congress and the White House. It pervades Hollywood’s hoi palloi, academia’s acolytes and even television’s talking-heads.

Enter Glenn Beck. As he assumed the position before the cameras center stage on Fox, fresh from other entertainment-oriented pursuits, it seemed his was a benevolent mission to uplift the downtrodden, shine light into corners that loved darkness, and speak truth to the powers that putrefy all which they touch within our governmental institutions.

Right from the start he was lucid if loony, biting with wit and sarcasm, brilliant at connecting dots and ferreting out hoodlums, and humble when and where he himself became a part of the commentary. It was refreshing, informative, and truly revolutionary in the sense that nobody was doing what he was doing. He was the new Paul Revere’s church steeple, shining like a klieg light with the message “Three if by Government!.” (credits to the Freeper who came up with this tagline)

Then a terrible thing happened. His ratings went through the roof. Millions upon millions of people started watching him each night, eager for his next exposé laden performance, and hanging upon his every winsome word. No doubt there were accolades from his co-workers and media bosses. There were most assuredly many who told him how great he was. And, it seems, he started believing them.

He went from assailing those whose vile goal it was to overturn our Constitution and do harm to our glorious National Heritage, to referring in the same breath and with the same disdain to both the “Truthers” who believe the U.S. Government was complicit in 9/11, and the good people here in America who wonder why our President refuses to produce his birth certificate. Birthers, he now calls us--and it’s meant as an insult.

He went from warning us about the politicians who would tell us what to think and whom to believe, to setting himself up as an authority telling us who we should and should not vote for. Deb Medina? NO! George Washington? YES! Sarah Palin? (He’ll let us know once he makes up his mind.)

The once great and finely focused corruption-seeking missile has devolved into a self-promoting pundit who seems now to care more about what he cares about (replete with his own self-servingly tortured rationalizations) than that which is best for us, and for America.

Nobody is perfect. I cannot sit here and tell you that, were I in his shoes, the same fate would not befall me. I can, however, tell you what a huge disappointment it is when we find out that one of our heroes is in truth just another jerk. I was in awe of Glenn when he was our knight in flabby cheeks. Now I’m just sad. America is losing one its few truly brilliant beacons, and a damn shame it is.

"Those photoshopped pictures I saw today really gave me pause. They still do. "

I can't believe nobody has noticed those photo-shopped pictures before this, either. Whoever is running O'Bonehead's "legend" is straight from amateursville. Any spy or undercover operative whose back-story was this sloppily thrown together would be found floating in a week... if they were ever found at all!

Good point!

I should like him calling me a "moron" over the Liar In Chief's birth certificate.

I'm with you on that one.

Lumping people who want to see O's paper trail in with people who think Bush and the Mossad killed 3000 Americans irritates me. I like the guy, he is doing tremendous service in my opinion that I wish, wish, our GOP leadership would do.

But he isn't perfect, and you just put your finger on something that irritates me too. I don't mind that he doesn't want to fight that issue; let him choose his battles and I'll choose mine. But it was an unnecessary attack on people who are almost universally constitutionalists.

I appreciate his constant drumbeat in favor of the constitution and all it stands for. When he strays from that he risks turning himself into O'Reilly and I'd hate to see that happen to anyone.

"Is he or one of his loved ones sick?"

Is that the only time we should pray? Should we even pray at all? Please, inquiring minds really care what you think.

Just kidding.

I'm kind of amazed at the attention this is getting. Then again, Beck is a very polarizing dude. I really like him, I'm just pissed at his ranting against us Birthers.

I'm even more amazed at those who actually claim to have read my article, and think the I'm upset because Beck disagrees with me.

But the really REALLY priceless ones, are those who complain because they think I'm attacking Glenn over his not agreeing with me, and then they attack me because they don't agree with me.

Too precious for mere words. But to your point:

I have no personal blog. I, like you, do laugh at those who use FR to pimp their own insignificant e-drivel. As if they will ever measure up to JR's genius in creating FreeRepublic when he did. I've been posting here since late '97-early-'98.

This is the best site on the 'Net, and it's only going to get bigger as it (remarkably!) becomes cool to be conservative again. Never thought I'd see that again, either.

Have a great night.

Agree. 100%.

I still like Glenn, and watch him all the time, and listen to his AM radio show, too. That's why it hurts to have him turn his back on the B.C. issue, and turn on those of us who don't stick our heads in the sand over it.

Everyone should watch Glenn Beck, and just ignore him when he rants against us "Birthers." Or come on here, add your own theraputic "Screw You, Glenn!" to the post, and then go turn on his show again.

I'm also a bit dubious of him palling around with Bill O'Blowhard... it would suck if O'Smelly starts to rub off on him. Not a good scene!

Heck no! You don't agree with me, and you're not a jerk.

Garg —

Did you even bother to read my post?

Your complaint has everything to do with Beck disagreeing with you. You were a fan as long as he said the things you wanted him to say. Now you’re not, according to you.

No, I’m not “feeling you.” Kinda crude, wouldn’t you say? I’m not Jed, I’m not a guy, and you’re not my type.

"You were a fan as long as he said the things you wanted him to say. Your complaint has everything to do with Beck disagreeing with you."

Now you're going to tell me what my post was really all about. How very Liberal of you.

Hypothetically:

Let's say I call you the "C" word. Let's add to the scenario that I call you that openly, on national television. Let's say, for the sake of this discussion, that this made you angry. With me so far?

Would you be mad because you "disagreed" with me? Or would you be mad at the derogatory, vile, insulting comment?

See, when you start playing the wordsmithing, Liberal, mealey-mouthed "It depends what the definition of is is..." crap that you not only run into trouble, but you suggest that you have so little integrity that you would rather blatantly lie and try to rationalize a falsehood than simply admit that you were wrong.

Clinton was famous for it. So is Obama. You sure you want to join that list? Your call, Jed.

(P.S.) If I can't dissuade you from this Liberal assininity, and for best results, in the future try only to play the game with someone whose I.Q. is under 165, n'kay? Jed?

Agreed!!!

“I still like Glenn, and watch him all the time, and listen to his AM radio show, too. That's why it hurts to have him turn his back on the B.C. issue, and turn on those of us who don't stick our heads in the sand over it.

I firmly believe that BECK has no idea how many people question barry’s place of birth.

Everyone I know that knows anything about politics feels the same way. Where was he born.

As I have posted else where on this forum....Beck cannot have it both ways. He is a Constutionalist and says we must question everything because of it. Yet we MUST NOT question Barry's birth even though the Constitution states that EVERY President must be a natural born citizen.

I would slap Beck on the side of the head pretty damn hard for this. Other than that, he does a good job and thank God that he routed out Medina (BY ACCIDENT)

"so I missed an ‘i’..."

You also missed a "p" in "happened."

"I guess you hate Beck for the same reasons you attack my one little mistake..."

1. I like Glenn and watch him all the time, which is why his betrayal on the Birth Certificate issue hurts and makes me angry with him.

2. You made several mistakes.

3. You call me insulting names, and then tell me to "lighten up?" If you can't take the heat you might consider hiking up your skirt and getting out of the kitchen. Just a thought...

You're like the jerk in a bar who sucker punches someone, and when instead of going down, he squares off to hammer you, you throw your hands up and say, "Hey, duuude... lighten up." You make me want to PUKE BRAIN MATTER!

Just kidding, I actually think you're quite funny. Okay, I'll lighten up.

I read, and was deeply touched by, your FR bio.

If only more Americans were as proud of (and knowledgable about) our Constitution, we'd tar and feather that prick on the front lawn of the White House and pack him off to jail for Treason Against America During Wartime, Abdicating His Oath to "uphold and defend" The Constitution, and for breaking a record 172 promises in his first year in office.

Good on yer, mate! P'r'aps one day we'll lift a cuppa (or a brew?).

Gleen Beck will soon be off of Faux at 5:00, his ratings are slipping and he has NO sponsors, which means he isn’t making them any money.

Thanks for letting me kow you have drank the Beck Kool-aid.

Here’s some information on your super hero Glenn Beck that you must have missed.

“While polls show more people drifting away from acceptance of “global warming,” the newest superstar among conservatives – Glenn Beck – is embracing it.

“You’d be an idiot not to notice the temperature change,” he says.

He also thinks it could be caused partly by man’s activity.

At home, he’s going green by using energy-saving products.

“I’m willing to do anything but use the CFLs,” he says of compact fluorescent light bulbs. “I put them in once and couldn’t stand the way they lit up the room.”

The kinder, gentler, greener and warmer side of Beck, known as a firebrand conservative, came to light in an interview in USA Weekend.

Beck also has lots of friends on the other side of the political spectrum, he reveals. He calls George Clooney “a good, honest man.” Beck says the two of them had an extended conversation about the genocide in Darfur.

“We came to an immediate, completely wholehearted agreement about the situation,” Beck says. “That is, to put aside the politics and give troops what they need to protect people over there. He’s a good, honest man who believes passionately about doing something about it.”

Beck’s personal publicist, Matt Hiltzik, is a Democratic power player who helped get Hillary Rodham Clinton elected to the U.S. Senate, says the magazine report.”

But not to worry, just drink more Kool-aid, fool.
