A manager at work wants me to download a YouTube file for them to save and embed in a presentation they're giving.
Such things are a bit above my pay grade, technically speaking. Does anyone here know how to do that without purchasing software or logging on to some dubious third party site?

Big mistake. You should switch to Firefox just to get access to the many valuable add-ons. Firefox is a far, far better browser than IE. I never looked back after making the switch based on strong recommendations from the Freeper Firefox Fans.

Wish I knew about this a few years ago, there were many creative music vids individuals did with songs and their imagery. But it looks like corporate greed in the name of copyright forced them to be deleted. The people were not making any money off the vids as far as I know either.

I have that add-on also and used it a couple times last night. It works great, is fast and is very easy.
O.K. I have this problem. I have Firefox and sometimes it will run You Tube fine and other times it just stays black and clicking on arrows does nothing.
I get notices that I need to download FlashPlayer (I think 6 or something.) But, in the process it asks me questions about Fire Fox I don’t know how to answer. Computer “how tos” are very hard for me unless I have a step 1. Do this, step 2. Do this. Same thing as driving a car...but ask me something mechanical on how it works and I’ll really go dumb on you.
Go to:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Unclick the “free McCaffe scan.” (Unless you really want that added annoyance when installing...)
Click on the yellow “Agree and Install Now” button.
You will probably get a light-yellow bar across the top of the webpage that says, “Firefox prevented this site (get.adobe.com) from asking you to install software on your computer.”
To the right of that message, there is a big, gray button that says, “Allow.”
Click on the “Allow” button.
A Software Install warning window will probably appear, saying something like, “Install add-ons only from authors whom you trust.”
Click on that Software Install warning window and then click on the “Install” button.
That’s pretty much it. The Flashplayer plugin will install and an Add-Ons window will pop up, prompting you to Restart Firefox.
Restart Firefox, and you should have the current version of Flashplayer.
If you have any other problems, don’t hesitate to ask.

I followed step by step, didn’t have any confusion and I think it downloaded without a problem. A sign did come up that said: One new add on has been installed - Adobe DLM, Download, Upload & Installation manager. Norton IPS, Find update, Disable, uninstall.
Didn’t know what to do.
While you think on it. I’m going to a posting that had a Youtube on it that I couldn’t see and give it another try.
That’s pretty much just an informational window from Firefox. Just click the [X] to close it out.

s....l....o....w download time. The circle spins and spins 2 seconds of sound, spin,spin,spin, 2 seconds of sound. After it loads it will run fast. You know what I’m talking about. I’m on satellite and maybe that is just the way it is.
