While taking a closer look at your link, I noticed that Joni Pitkanen (Finland) got a one-game suspension for a head-hunting hit on Patric Hornqvis (Sweden).

Now since I haven’t seen the hit, I wonder if it was much worse than the open ice drilling Ovechkin gave Jagr (that’s on all the sport channels).

Just heard Don Cherry commenting on Team Canada.

He is critical of using 4 lines, and rightly so. Said "Crosby hasn't had 15 minutes of ice time since he was in Jr. High!"

Luongo is slated to start against Germany. We'll see if the Vancouver goalie makes a difference ... (Germany? Please!)

Does the 5-3 scoreline refer to goals or the fights? Nobody seems to care about the goals in hockey. People seem to be interested only in the fights.

Clearly, you haven't watched hockey lately.

In fact, fighting in the Olympics means an automatic ejection! Not only from the game, but from the entire Olympics!

Maybe you might give it a look and not let old history form your opinion for you? Things have changed since the lock-out.

Olympic Hockey Ping!

Below is the playoff schedule for the Men's Ice Hockey. (thanks to MEG33 for providing the link)

The USA women play Canada Thursday Feb. 25, at 6:30 PM (Eastern) for the GOLD! The game should be on MSNBC! LIVE!(check your local listings!)

Here are the final seedings for the tournament:

1.USA

2.Sweden

3.Russia

4.Finland

5.Czech Republic

6.Canada

7.Slovakia

8.Switzerland

9.Belarus

10.Norway

11.Germany

12.Latvia

The next part of the tournament is the 'qualification' round, with the top four teams receiving a bye for this round. Here are the matchups for these games:

All times Eastern.

QP1 - Switzerland vs Belarus - Feb. 23 - 3:00 p.m.

QP2 - Czech Republic vs Latvia - Feb. 23 - 7:00 p.m.

QP3 - Slovakia vs Norway - Feb. 23/24 - 12:00 a.m.

QP4 - Canada vs Germany - Feb. 23 - 7:30 p.m.

This is single elimination now, so any loss and you are out of the tournament completely. Here's the schedule for the quarterfinals:

QF1 - USA vs QP1 Winner - Feb. 24 - 3:00 p.m.

QF2 - Finland vs QP2 Winner - Feb. 24 - 7:30 p.m.

QF3 - Sweden vs. QP3 Winner - Feb. 24 - 10:00 p.m.

QF4 - Russia vs. QP4 Winner - Feb. 24/25 - 12:00 a.m.

I'm guessing a 12 am start time for a potential Russia vs. Canada matchup will leave some hockey fans on the East Coast very, very unhappy.

Here's the rest of the tournament:

Semifinals:

QF1 vs QF2 - Feb. 26 - 3:00 p.m.

QF3 vs QF4 - Feb. 26 - 9:30 p.m.

Here's the medal games. Of course, the bronze medal game is between the losers of the two semifinals game.

Bronze Medal Game - Feb. 27 - 10:00 p.m.

Gold Medal Game - Feb. 28 - 3:15 p.m.

Apparently America cared about hockey Sunday night!

"MSNBC Draws Massive Viewership For USA-Canada Classic
An average audience of 8.22 million watched the USA hockey team defeat Canada, 5-3, nearly matching the best average viewership for a program on MSNBC. (Election Night Coverage, 8.23 million on Nov. 4, 2008)."

Well, at least as much as they did for Obama's coronation. ;^)

I do find it interesting, when listening to the commentary during the womens games, almost all of the players from the better teams are college players who are attending USA schools.

Even the Canadians (whose fans chanted “F@#& USA” at the end of the men’s 5-3 loss to the USA) mostly attend USA schools.

Same info, different format. Plus this one updated hours before the one at your link did after the US Canada game.

In order to play us for the gold Canada may have to beat two of the big seven*, not an easy task.

*The big seven are Sweden, Canada, Russia, USA, Finland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

I would love to see the MSNBC circus of low rated liberals show up for work and be informed that the channel is now going all hockey.

Doubt Ovie will get anything for it. Everyone involved in hockey has their nose shoved up his behind. When watching the highlights before the USA/CAN game, they were fawning over his 4 shots that were all saved but didn't show one of Malkin's two goals in that game.

I despise Ovechkin, though I did get a chuckle out of watching that hit on Jagr. Call it the bitter Pittsburgher in me... :)

Canada will have their hands full with Russia.

Kovalchuk, Malkin, Ovechkin, Gonchar, Federov, Semin and Datsyuk top the list of NHL stars.

And Ovechkin will have Crosby in his sights, just because he’s a nasty player who likes to take borderline cheap shots.

Then we are agreed! Jagr leaving for the Caps (and the cash) didn't work out so well though, did it.

Now if Luongo falters, will they call on "the flower" to fill the net? Or give Marty another shot?

I recieved a Jagr jersey the Christmas before he left. It was the season they introduced the latest jerseys. I was so excited to get on the new ones. Alas, that jersey has only been pulled out of the closet once, when I moved out of mom’s house.

My brother told me he thinks Shero will make a play for Jagr since he’s expressed he wants to come back to the NHL. I said “Shero wouldn’t dare.”

Unfortunately, I don’t see Fleury getting to play. If CAN beats Russia, I don’t think Babcock will want to switch things for the sake of someone getting in. It’s unfortunate because I think Fleury would play really well against Russia...I know that sounds crazy with the likes of Malkin and Ovie when you have Brodeur and Luongo on your squad, but I just think he’d be great against them.

My son roomed with a hockey player in college which got us going to a few college games. I was surprised by the number of foreigners on the teams (mostly Canadians, some Euros). I don’t like that but the colleges don’t care where their players come from. I think there are more good American players now and in the W. PA area there will be many more to come (thank you Sidney Crosby).

Canadians who hate Americans when it comes to hockey don’t seem to change when they come here and it’s pretty easy to be anti-American on US college campi.

Perhaps that will happen. One good side effect of NBC’s hockey coverage is that many many hockey fans have learned to hate MSNBC.
