In what is believed to be the first fatal dog attack in Philadelphia in more than a quarter-century, a pit bull sank her teeth into the neck of a 38-year-old Fishtown woman and killed her yesterday.
The victim, Christine Staab, had been arguing with her mother in their Oxford Street rowhouse and fell backward. At that point, the dog leaped on Staab, said her mother, Barbara Erb

That is a straw man argument. No one has suggested that other deaths are not as important. A husky can be dangerous, and no one who knows dogs would suggest otherwise. Huskys are bred to work - to pull with a harness. What are pits bred to do? Seems to me it is you that lives in a false reality. Please just stay there. This discussion is a waste of time and I’m done.
The phrases, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bulldog and Bull Terrier are used by pit bull owners in attempts to obfuscate and confuse. For the purpose at hand, they’re all pit bulls. By the laws of many jurisdictions, they’re pit bulls.
It’s common knowledge now, so the attempts to mislead people who aren’t so fond of pit bulls are failing.
I’m just getting sick of going to FR and seeing all these incessant threads about dachshund attacks.
“dont screw with the Badger Hunter.”
The only time I have crossed a Doxie lover was when I named my Mother’s new one when I was in college. I suggested the name Fritz, she named him that and then found out that I suggested the name because Fritz Hollins was such a dog as a senator. She was not happy with me. He, unlike the Senator, was a great dog. We still talk about him years later. He lived long enough to nip my son because he got too close to his grandmother at the wrong time. They are loyal.
Pit Bulls do love children. They eat them quite often according to the news. Most men that own pit bulls is to make themselves feel macho. Don’t fool with me, I have a killer dog! It doesn’t make them a man just shows their inferiority complex.
Four this week. Your starting to look and sound stupid.
I watched "It's Me or the Dog" yesterday(the American series) with dog trainer Victoria Stilwel.Just before an ad break they put up a small factiod regarding pitbulls...the pitbull is nicknamed 'the nanny dog' because of it's tolerance of children.
My son and daughter both own one and from what I've seen here for the last 5 yrs (and way earlier concerning a few friend's pitbulls) is that they do seem very tolerant of children.Ours are utter saps! Not much chop with other dogs though.
I definently wouldn't trust them with kids,or anyone they don't know well for that matter. No dog can be trusted 100% Most of this vitriol oughta be directed at some of the the people who own them.
The photo seems old -a 38 year old druggie wouldn’t look like that so Mom doesn’t even have a more recent photo of her child? Oh wait, this is the Mom more anxious about her dogs than the death of her daughter...nevermind.
Just a loyal family pet, defending its owner. < /sarc >

Pit bulls were bred for various things, one of them dog fighting. They were NEVER bred for guarding, NEVER bred to be aggressive towards humans. The incidents that are happening have every aspect of irresponsible ownership, yet you refuse to see it. The fact of the matter is that the experts working in areas related to this issue completely disagree with you.
What expertise do you have that compares? Do you really think your anecdotal evidence and limited personal experience truly qualify you to pass judgment without any actual research? I read every single day on this subject, everything I can get my hands on. What do you do? Read the news? Perhaps I would let this go if you could provide a single bit of evidence from a reputable source to back up your opinion. So far, none has been provided, whereas I have provided multiple resources.
“A husky can be dangerous, and no one who knows dogs would suggest otherwise. Huskys are bred to work - to pull with a harness. “
So how does their job relate to the incident? Did the husky pull the baby around on a harness until it died? Why was the dog even allowed near the baby alone? Same reason why toddlers end up several houses away, their parents completely oblivious: irresponsibility. When it comes to your pets and children, ignorance is no excuse. They should have known better than to leave a child alone with a dog, especially a baby that small.
In the story about this woman, we have five dogs that I would wager are intact or used for breeding and a woman with a history of drug abuse. These are not normal, productive members of society, obviously.
“Four this week. Your starting to look and sound stupid.”
Again, I have proof that your opinions are wrong, and you have news reports, some of which are WRONG, and you are ignoring the findings others have shown you. Where is your proof from reputable sources?
As for your comment regarding my looking stupid, I promise you there’s a pretty high chance if we were to compare IQ scores, you would not be happy with the results, so perhaps name calling should be left to the children. I have loads of great sources from experts to back up everything I have said. You have sensationalized media reports, which you seem to truly believe are proof enough.
The people posting and viewing here are not buying it. People actually prefer real proof in an argument. They do not like being lied to, nor do they like a bathtub full of rhetoric designed to cloud the truth. Perhaps you should focus more on finding that unattainable resource, that single modicum of proof you would need for me and others to change our minds. Until then, post your heart out, because all that is being seen is a rational person putting up statistics, expert opinions, and facts that you cannot deny, compared to your snide comments and media reports.
