He’s probably too old now, but Ralph Feinnes was once considered for the part of Bond. The story goes that Feinnes was eliminated from consideration in part because he wanted to take the character back to the Connery mold - i.e. a very non-PC attitude towards women and life in general. Dunno if that is true or not, but Feinnes could have been a pretty good Bond, IMHO.
The oddest Bond considerations I’ve read about were Britpop singer Robbie Williams and Roland Gift, lead singer for the 80’s band The Fine Young Cannibals.

Personally I would love to see some of the Roger Moore Bond flicks redone as period stories in the 50s and 60’s, following the stories as they were done in the novels, without the gadgets and superhero stuff. Call it “Ian Flemming’s Moonraker”, etc.
