Columbia College is the undergraduate school at Columbia U.
It was the men's college that was originally Kings College back in 1754. Classes were suspended in 1776 for the war. It reopened in 1784 as Columbia College, the "mother college" of the University of the State of New York. The Student Homophile Union, the country's oldest gay rights advocacy group, was started there in 1966. The Black Student Organization was started in 1973. The college didn't admit women until 1983. Barnard College was the women's school. I think Barnard is still all female. One of the other students in my doctoral program in '94 was a graduate of Barnard.

Common misconception. Actually, CC is one of 4 undergraduate colleges at Columbia. The others are the School of General Studies (non-traditional students including many ex-military), the Fu School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (the Fu part is new, named after a donor), and Barnard College for Women.
