A Phoenix man seems to have confused the iconic message of McGruff the Crime Dog.
Rather than taking a bite outta crime, the man took a bite out of a cop last night after assaulting a woman, trying to steal a car, and getting shot by an officer.
Last night around 10, two men, whose names have not been released, walked through the drive-through of a Church's Chicken on Thomas Road in Phoenix.
The men reached through the window and assaulted a 17-year-old girl working at the restaurant, police say.
When police arrived on the scene, the men were no longer at the Church's. One had fled the scene, the other was across the street in a CVS parking lot assaulting another victim in what police believe was an attempt to steal the person's car.
The officer who arrived on the scene told the man to stop assaulting the victim. The man complied -- sort of.
The suspect moved on to attacking the officer, who after telling him to stop, drew his gun and shot the man.
Unfortunately, he didn't shoot him well enough, because the suspect continued to assault the officer and resist arrest.
Five more officers showed up to help subdue the man, and in the process of restraining him, the man took a bite out of one of the officers forearms, breaking the skin.
After the struggle seemed to end, the fire department showed up and strapped the handcuffed suspect to a gurney.
The suspect -- who at this point had assaulted three people (including a cop) been shot, bitten a police officer, and been shackled to a medical gurney -- wasn't done yet.
He managed to slide the handcuffs under his legs to the front of his body and again started to attack officers and medical staff.
The man was then hit twice with a Taser before police were finally able to control him.
Both the man and the bitten officer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
