Although technology has revolutionized air travel during the past decade, passenger satisfaction with airports continues to lag behind that of other aspects of the travel industry, largely because passenger expectations of basic needs-such as prompt baggage delivery, airport comfort and ease of navigating the airport-are not being met consistently, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 North America Airport Satisfaction StudySM released today

Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW) ranks highest in overall customer satisfaction among large airports and performs particularly well in the terminal facilities and baggage claim factors. Denver International (DEN) and Minneapolis/St. Paul International (MSP), in a tie, closely follow DTW in the segment rankings. DEN performs particularly well in the airport accessibility factor.

Oh, great! The next 2 flights I have to take are into Newark and Los Angeles. Looks like swell times ahead...
I fly out of LAX all the time — it is actually a pretty good airport — compact, good design, short distance to the gates.
Unless they are talking about the Bradley terminal — then they are right, it is the worst I have ever seen. And Terminal 1 where Cattlecall Airways flies out of — it is always packed AND since it is the 1st terminal in the traffic flow the traffic to get into the airport is almost backed up.
Uh, never mind...
Once I had an international flight out of LAX and it was the worst airport experience in my life. It seemed every international flight out of LAX was leaving at the same time. It was worse than Disneyland on a summer weekend in terms of squeezing all us sardnies into the check in area.
I had not realized that ANYBODY’S satisfaction was of measurable level at any commercial airport. With the TSA (Thousands Standing Around) as alert as a comic-opera Gestapo, pointedly ignoring some really bad-looking dudes, while going after little old ladies with blue hair, and the prison-guard attitude of the directors of traffic at the loading-unloading points by the counters and the baggage claim, it is a wonder that air travel is even considered a viable option any more.

Detroit: Come see our airport. Skip the rest.
Haha.
You should win the Freeper one liner of the day.
Detroit Airport is Number 1 ??
Things must really be getting bad.
Folks bitch and whine about LAX all the time, but I just don’t get why. I’ve never had any trouble there.
All commercial airports are terrible - just rank them bad, worse, and worst. Commercial aviation stinks. The only good airline was MidWest, before they went dual-class.
So I went out and got myself a pilots license and a Cessna 172 - that, my friends, is what flying is all about. General Aviation. Serving America!
Things must really be getting bad.
It's one of my favorites ever since they built the new midfield terminal. The old terminal was a dump.
And they dumped the other old terminal and built a carbon copy for everyone else(midfield is NW/Delta). Now if you can just not leave the airport you’re fine.
DTW is the only airport I know which has a "Religious Reflections Room" devoid of all religious adornments except an arrow pointing to Mecca.
You should check it out if you ever have a long layover there. It is a good place to catch a couple of winks. Just pretend to stay asleep if any Muzzies walk into the room to do their caterwauling.
I moved to Denver from New Jersey (via many stops in between). This study is vindication.
“Detroit: Come see our airport. Skip the rest.”
That about sums it up. It is a great airport though. I’ve made connections to transatlantic flights here in under 15 minutes. That includes having a cigarette at the Fox Sports Bar. (I dont’ give a damn if you non-smokers don’t like it). Never checked in, or checked-out here. Don’t plan to. The lake is nice to look at though :-)
