With a six year winning streak at stake American Idol kept the streak alive, easily beating out the Olympics every half hour between 8p-10p with both adults 18-49 and total viewers. Between 8pm-10pm Idol averaged a 9.1/22 rating share with adults 18-49 and 24.64 million viewers. During that same period NBC averaged a 5.1/12 rating/share with adults 18-49 and 19.74 million but for the whole night (8p-11p) NBC averaged a 5.4/14 and 20.41 million viewers

Does this represent more interest in music than sports in our sedentary society?
But, but....NBC told us that we don’t want live coverage. We want tape delayed coverage with lots of human interest stories about polar bears and gay guys who get death threats because they wear fur.
You mean....they could be wrong?!
Nah,Its’because the mens and womens curling teams are
winless!(snort)
Last night was alpine skiing, snowboarding and speed skating and USA picked up 6 medals, three of them gold.
Do I really want to watch guys prance around on ice wearing costumes that would be seen as too gay in Frisico, or do I want to figure out why those people are stuck on the island?
Yeah, not that hard.
No, it represents American Idol being more interesting than a puff story on the discrimination Johnny Weir faces being a wealthy figure skater.
If NBC actually showed more of the Olympics, I’d be happy. Every time I turn to the Olympics, they’re interviewing the second cousin’s neighbor of the luge sledder who died, which means I don’t get to watch Bode Miller rocket down a mountain.
I amazed that we’re leading the medal count.
My vote is for the rerun of Gilligan's Island too.
We’ve got some amazing winter atheletes, especially Von and Shaun White. They’ve set the bar with their innovations.
shaun whites 2nd run on the half pipe snowboarding was quite possibly the most awesome thing i have seen in the olympics ever.
Up to last night, I didn’t get what the big deal was about Shaun White, other than maybe his physical appearance.
Now I know. That boy just flat out defies gravity.
So, the Olympics are too gay and that is way it is losing to American Idol.
That’s like saying Jm J Bullock is not as big a star as Harvey Feinstein due to homophobia.
Agreed. That last move by White gave me vertigo.I watched it
three times to truly appreciate the move.Vonn and Davis
also were great.
I agree, those people wasting their time on American Idolatry have no idea what they missed.
Fox 8.8, NBC 4.5.
Funny, I distinctly remember seeing Mr. Zucker this morning saying NBC’s preliminary overnights indicated they probably had beaten Idol. Must be the same counters they used for the Bush-Kerry election night.
I forgot about David. First time I’ve seen him skate—and it won’t be the last! Ono skates again doesn’t he? And Von in two more events? Must get a schedule!
The winter games are a collection of sports that have never been popular in America. If they didn’t sell it to the network bundled with the summer games (which has sports that are popular here) it probably wouldn’t even be broadcast.
Frankly, I don’t want to see anymore darned snow or ice! Just getting to the car is an Olympic event here. The other shows don’t interest me either, but they never did anyway.
I thought Vonn was going to be in five events? I just have a
daily viewing schedule and not individual athletes.
