With a six year winning streak at stake American Idol kept the streak alive, easily beating out the Olympics every half hour between 8p-10p with both adults 18-49 and total viewers. Between 8pm-10pm Idol averaged a 9.1/22 rating share with adults 18-49 and 24.64 million viewers. During that same period NBC averaged a 5.1/12 rating/share with adults 18-49 and 19.74 million but for the whole night (8p-11p) NBC averaged a 5.4/14 and 20.41 million viewers

Yes, if you didn’t understand it, you’ve never seen this kid, he is not simply a PR created human interest every 4 year hype for the Olympics. Whether you like the sport or don’t, you can’t deny that this young man is amazing at what he does.
I certainly became a fan last night.
Actually his second run from a technical standpoint had more errors than his first, no doubt he pulled off a harder stunt at the finish with hardly any momentum (relatively speaking) but his first run was by far more technically clean.
I remember they were saying that they tried the men’s skiis because of the conditions. I don’t think the girls that wiped-out were using men’s skiis.
I didn’t have to do any kind of logging in for Cox. Maybe comcast is just being weenies. They should have more on the net, heck they should have more on their channels, if you go to their full day TV listing the amount of white space is pretty amazing.
Yeah, that had to hurt.
I personally hate all the “human interest” fluff they put into the broadcasting of olympics on TV. Those stupid little vinettes about how competitor X has some horrible event or whatever obstacle etc... Big whoop, its called LIFE, I just want to see them get out on the field of their chosen sport and perform.
The problem isn’t that they mention these things, but they make that the center of it and just overplay it to rediculousness. Vonn bruised her shin.. ok, so what, BLACK AND BLUE IS THE COLOR OF SPORTS! Several women went down during their runs that day, and every one of them fortunately got up and nearly every one will compete again. I respect these individuals as athletes, and yes I’m sure her shin hurt like hell, but hardly was she the only person showing up or competing hurt, or to have taken bad spills.
More sports, less fluff.
They said VONN had been using mens skis most of the season if not all of this season, and that one other woman tried it and couldn’t handle them and went back to womens if memory serves.
In total agreement. But we do need to remember that figure skating and gymnastics are the ratings drivers for the Olympics, and they drive the rating by bringing in women that normally don’t watch sports. Which is why they go all lifetime network. It would be really nice they just did a guy version of the main broadcast, because when they aren’t showing the annoying lifetime junk there’s often good stuff on the main broadcast, just take that main feed and swap out more speed skating or luge every time the girl feed goes to a sob story or figure skating.
I was watching the Sweden-Germany hockey game for most of the night.
Was he on Morning Joe again intimidating the panel with his stare and other crap he throws out of his so called brain?
It certainly worked for her.
Sorry I should have clarified, when I say “broadcast” I still mean the old fashioned over the air “big 4” networks. I know the rest of the world includes cable now when they say “broadcast” but I’m old fashioned. I agree it would still probably wind up on a cable network, but definitely not on one of the majors.
That’s pretty good of Idol, winning the 8-10 time slot when it was only on from 9-10. I guess idol lovers sat staring at their TVs for an hour waiting for Idol to start?
Oh, they must have been talking about tuesday, not last night.
Yeah, the last episode was a mind-blower.
I liked the snowboard races, but if it ain’t hockey or curling, I don’t much care.
Does this represent more interest in music than sports in our sedentary society? Yes things like air guitar contest and air guitar awards...
my son is fifteen and just discovered curling for the first time. he is fascinated by this sport. i find myself more interested in the winter events than i am in the summer olympics. don’t know why. i never used to care about the winter set, except for couples figure skating. now i find all the winter events much more interesting than summer gymnastics.
