One of Abbey Road Studios most famous clients hopes that the facility, which has reportedly been put up for sale, can be saved. Paul McCartney, speaking to the BBCs Newsnight television show on Tuesday, said there have been efforts to save Abbey Road by a few people who have been associated with the studio for a long time, although he did not name those people or include himself among them.
I have so many memories there with the Beatles, he added. It still is a great studio. So it would be lovely for someone to get a thing together to save it.
The Financial Times, citing anonymous sources, has reported that EMI... had put the building on the market; EMI has not commented on the report.

Too bad Paul McCartney doesn’t know anyone who has money. Maybe he can get Heather Mills to buy it.

Recording of the album began on the 21 February 1967 in studio three of Abbey Road Studios at the same time the Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the Pretty Things were recording S.F. Sorrow. The album was produced by Norman Smith, an EMI staff member who had previously engineered all of the Beatles' recordings up to 1965's Rubber Soul. Smith would go on to produce Pink Floyd's follow up album, A Saucerful of Secrets.

The funny thing is that George Martin took over EMI’s Parlophone Record label in the 1950s and it was from that the Beatles got signed in the first place.
But the cost of doing business in England isn’t what it once was.

Too bad Paul McCartney doesnt know anyone who has money. Maybe he can get Heather Mills to buy it. Even post-divorce, Paul could still put the studio on his Mastercard (I think Billy Connolly had a joke about McCartney purchasing an island that way).

It's a really impressive sight. When I was there (’07) I badly needed a hip replacement so the picture we have of us crossing the zebra crossing shows me limping like an amputee. But seeing it *does* give one a sense of (music) history.

If I had the money I would buy it and turn the main room (where the Beatles did much of their recording) into an interactive anamatronic exhibit showing how the Beatles and all the other great bands recorded music there. Then I would have one of the other studio rooms set up so that visitors could record their own song/video with their fav artist who recorded at Abbey Road.
Of course one would have to cut all those folks in on the deal if you could get them to agree but I think it would be a big seller if you could manage to keep the price between 25-50 bucks American for a DVD to take home!
