Sarah Palin: Trig is Off Limits
Team Sarah ^ | 2/17/2010 | Team Sarah

Posted on 02/17/2010 8:08:46 AM PST by Candor7

When Trig Paxston Van Palin was born, his parents announced, "Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed."

At Team Sarah we believe that every child is indeed created with a purpose and little Trig Palin holds a special and very dear place in our heart.

For those in our society today who would stoop to the level of making fun of a toddler with special needs for cheap laughs and the almighty dollar, they have our pity. Anyone who resorts to comedy "material" of that magnitude is simply to be pitied, as they have forgone their own dignity in order to capture the sort of shock appeal that will pathetically sustain them with the small fraction of society that would find humor in such a thing.

Comedic hacks are nothing new to the entertainment industry. We can ignore them, we can change the channel, we can call them out when we think they've crossed the line.

For us, the bottom line is that Trig is off limits. Period.

Sincerely,

Team Sarah

MacFarlane is a jackass and a reprobate, much like David Letterman. But, Palin is mistaken to wage this battle - comments by idiots are best left ignored.

Palin got in a fight with Letterman, Letterman is now leading late-night programming. If she takes on MacFarlane, his ratings will increase, not decrease. People who are sympathetic to Palin aren't watching Family Guy. But, people who are predisposed to like that kind of humor will only be enticed to watch now that Palin has fired back. It's a lose-lose for Palin and her family.

As they say, when you roll around with pigs, the pigs love it and you get filthy.

I’m glad someone else sees this. Now, we need to draw the picture. Why did the leftists from Family Guy do this?

In my opinion, they were trying to draw an attack from Palin, and they succeeded. But nobody who watches that clip who isn’t a Palin supporter will see an attack on her son, they will see a teenage female Down’s Syndrome child being used as a normal character, which I thought was what we wanted.

Instead, we are tripping over ourselves to be politically correct.

Maybe you could name one thing bad said about Trig on Family Guy? The last person I asked to explain this decided it wasn’t worth talking about.

Some female character who is portrayed in a positive light says in their fictional universe that they are the child of an accountant and the former governor of Alaska.

How is that a “dig” at Trig? Could you please explain what about that character was an attack on Trig? How did this put Trig in a bad light in any way? I’m serious, everybody is saying this is an attack on Trig, but nobody can explain what bad thing they say about either Trig or the teenage girl that makes it an attack.

Why is it when Clinton is in office his daughter is respected and off limits (same with any democrat really). But if it’s a republican their kids are fair game.

Well, if Sarah believed in gun control, abortion-on-demand, taking from the rich (meaning the middle-class and not the on-dole-public-servant rich), and giving to the poor (meaning the people who are able to work but are encouraged not to work) and if Sarah was willing to be a boot-licking, lapdog liberal, THEN she would receive the same treatment the Clinton's did in reference to their daughter.

“How is that a “dig” at Trig?”

The character had DS, said she was the daughter of the former Alaskan governor and Stewie sang a pathetically unfunny song about this “Down’s Syndrome girl” and her “robot strength” for example, and on and on...

It was crass.

Sorry you disagree but it was utterly crass and it seems PILED on at this point.

Whoever gets off on making fun of those with disabilities should not be surprised when they get called an a—hole.

HUH!! The former governor of Alaska?? Clue:The chick has Downs syndrome,Make the connection?

So you are saying that anything that reminds you that Trig has Down's syndrome is an attack on Trig? What did they say that was an attack on Trig? What did they have the character do that put Trig in a bad light?

If Family Guy was trying to prove a point, I think they just did. They got people to look at a functional Teenage Female with Down's syndrome, and immediately associate her with a baby boy with Down's syndrome, as if "Down's Syndrome" was the only important characteristic. They got conservatives to ignore everything good about the girl, and instead focus on the one "other" trait she had in common with Trig, other than the fictional "mother is the former governor of alaska".

Oddly, not one of these conservatives even thought to complain about a much more OBVIOUS conclusion they could have jumped to -- that the female is supposed to represent one of Palin's female daughters, and the "joke" would be that her daughters, and are also afflicted with a disability.

The point being that, instead of making the obvious association: "Female Daughter", they got conservatives to jump to the "Down's Syndrome". Now, was that the message Palin wants to send, that the most important characteristic of a Down's Syndrome child is that they have Down's Syndrome? That this characteristic is more important than their age, sex, or father (all of which were DIFFERENT with the character?).

It is clear what Family Guy was doing. They portrayed a Down's syndrome person as a normal person on a normal date. They made that person completely different from Trig, EXCEPT that the person had Down's syndrome.

And then they threw in "mother is the ex-governor of Alaska", so they could try to provoke Palin into attacking them. It worked, unfortunately.

To some degree, Palin is just going to have to accept the fact that Trig is part of the cutlure at large now.

He is the most famous person in America with Downs Syndrome.

Remember the show “Life Goes On?” The lead character, Corky, had Downs and was portrayed as a normal person with a special challenge. Most people liked the show and it was popular.

At the same time, the character “Corky” became a cultural stand-in for every single person with Downs Syndrome. I remember football practices where if someone made a dumb play or blew an assignment, we’d sarcastically say, “Nice play, Corky.”

My guess is that “Nice play, Trig” is going to be heard in gyms and fields all over America for the next few years.

Palin needs to adjust to this reality. Otherwise, she is going to become the national schoolmarm who just scolds everyone constantly.

Oh, please. Gee where is the last Alaskan governor with a DS kid? That ‘it’s a girl’ character is just cover.

And damn, Sarah has a right to express anger when someone makes fun of her child. All you political calculators should think first. What kind of mom wouldn’t defend their child? Politcally expedient or not. He’s her baby for pete’s sakes!

I don’t watch Family guy. I have not seen a clip of Stewie singing a song about the boy’s girlfriend.

Of course Family Guy is crass. It’s a disgusting show. But how does a song about some teen girl with Down’s having “robot strength” attack Trig Palin, an infant boy?

Since I didn’t see the song, I have to rely on you — did the song imply that robot strength was bad, or that the robot strength was a result of her having Down’s?

You are the first person to mention any other part of the show other than the date at the restaurant.

Children should be off-limits. And Family Guy should pay the price for crossing the line.

I wish I watched the show so I could turn it off, but I never did find the funny in that show.

She shows no inclinition to adjust to this reality. She can't change the fact that she is thin-skinned and she can't change the fact that people are turned off. This will happen again.

I thought about Corky when this came up. He was portrayed in a very positive light. If I remember correctly, some were upset because he set an unrealistic expectation for other people with Down’s kids, since he was especially well-functioning.

If it wasn’t an attack against Trig, it was an AMAZING coincidence that the writers made the character the daughter of the former governor of Alaska and not, say....Ohio.

If it’s just a coincidence, it’s a pretty big one.

Now, stop pretending you don’t ‘get it’ and get back to defending those that get off on attacking little babies.
