Pit Bull vs. Porcupine

Somewhere there is a naked Porcupine!

This Pit Bull decided he would attack a Porcupine; but being brave, he learned the hard way that you can't always win, no matter how tough you are. The vet sedated the dog and removed 1347 quills...the dog survived and hopefully learned a lesson.

1.Choose your fights wisely.

2.Don't mess with Porcupines!

Poor dog is probably blind now.

Just in case you ever need to know it, the barbs on porcupine quills are arranged in spirals around the shaft, just like screw-threads. Don’t yank the quills out. Rotate them with a pair of pliers and they will come out like a screw. This procedure is slower than yanking them out, but much less painful and damaging. About 90 percent of porcupines have quills that come out when rotated counterclockwise. If that doesn’t work, rotate the quills clockwise.

Not that it will matter to anyone, but that is NOT a pit bull.

It is a Bull Terrier.

General Patton would.

Bull terriers were his breed.

I'm sure you'll recall his beloved Willie.

That’s because it *is* but why should anyone here let a little thing like the facts get in the way of their blind hatred?

“I’ve been involved with this breed for more than 35 years”

I envy you.
I’ve always wanted one but there are no breeders in my area and precious few show ever up in rescue and there’s such a long waiting list to adopt them that my odds of getting one are slim and none.

There were never even any entered in the local large annual AKC all breed show.

Once, back in the late 80s, a guy showed up at the all breed with his BT and generously allowed me to play with and hug his pet.

It was a wonderful yet heartbreaking moment I’ll never forget.

So...I’ve had Dobermanns for 35 years, instead.

[and yes, amazingly, I am still alive, whole and and un-mauled]....;]

“Everything said about pit bulls today was said about Doberman Pinschers 35 years ago.”

Been there, heard that.

Never dissuaded me from rescuing or owning any of the dozens I’ve had.

Wonderful, brilliant, incredibly devoted dogs.

I can’t imagine my life without one.

I've been involved with the breed going back to the 1970's. Always a pleasure to introduce bull terriers to people who have only read about them but haven't actually seen one ... they're fairly rare. Responsible BT breeders prefer it that way and actually cringe when BT's get highlighted in some way, such as the Budweiser commercials featuring Spuds Mackenzie. More recently Target stores has featured a BT in some of their ads. Like all terriers a BT is a lot of dog, especially as a puppy. They are high energy and don't really mellow out until they're at least three ... with some taking even longer. They all have distinct personalities and are real characters with a impish sense of humor.

I went through the same thing with the “Amazing Dobermans” movie series.
[and to a lesser degree, Magnum PI]

Backyard breeders sprung up like toadstools after a summer rain.
There was an entire decade in which I was rescuing a Dobe every month, whether it be a shelter or just some “giveaway” in the local paper.

It nearly destroyed the breed and we’re still trying to recover from all the previously rare genetic issues rampant in the breed today.

[and in my area, they’ve become so scarce that it took me years to find another when my last one passed...bad for me...great for the breed]

You do well very to stay small and rare.

I remember being horrified over the “Spuds” commercials because I knew what it meant for the breed.

Then the BT won Westminster BOS 2 years in a row [if I’m not mistaken] and the dread returned.

Ibizan Hounds, for the first time since they came here in the 50s suddenly gave rise to backyard breeders because “Bunny” made it to the Westminster BOS ring 2 years in a row.

[the Ibizan Hound club is still “cleaning up the mess” from that]

When I got my first Ibizan in 1990, there were *perhaps* a few hundred in the whole US.

Now, scores of litters are being born every year and they are NOT for people who expect or want a “nice obedient family dog” so a lot end up in shelters or are killed because the owner didn’t bother with proper fencing or understand that NO OFF LEASH runs really was a -must-.

BTs sound a lot like Dobes...which is probably why I love them.

[and who could ever resist those triangular little “laughing eyes” and that eternal smile? they even *look* impish]....;-D

That picture of a Pit Bull that went after a Porcupine and got 1300 quills stuck in its face?

That is Rahm Emanual’s failed attack on the American voter.
