As my beloved Earl says, Karma minds. If you begrude food to some undernourished kids now, don't be surprised if the world doesn't volunteer to change your dirty adult diaper when you're a drooling senile old bastard.
No one is begrudging undernourished kids any food. They are begrudging their wallets being pickpocketed by a government agency desperate to justify its existence. That is all that is going on here.
The fact is that families that poor get food stamps and other things, they are not going to starve because of a snowday, they always survive weekends just fine. Nobody has died from lack of school lunches as far as I know.
I think the poster who said “there must be mass starvation during summer vacation” Summed up the foolishness nicely.
Very articulate and compassionate of you. I suppose you are the one to decide who needs something and who does not. Are you going to point the gun to enforce your opinions? No. You vote for that to be done.
“Won’t someone please think of the children?” is the usual background noise I hear when some public official is dipping for my wallet. When the school bond passes, teachers trade in cars, so my neighbors and I defeated the last bond drive “for the children.”
If parents drawing public assistance as it is can, but won’t, feed their own kids then their kids are children in need of services and the parents are unfit. And I don’t care if they are whiskey tangos or india alphas. (Figure that one out!)
Hey kittykat, just my 2 cents. I grew up on welfare, single parent home, and my mom always had nutritious food at home to eat. It wasn’t fancy, but there was no excuse for being hungry. Fast forward to my kids, we were struggling, but my kids always had something to eat. Fried potatoes (with onions hot dogs and ketchup), spaghetti, rice, tacos, oatmeal for breakfast, but I always felt it was MY responsibility to feed my kids. Americans have no problem with helping people in dire straights. We have no patience with people to lazy to help themselves. It’s in the bible, if a man doesn’t work, he shall not eat. A man who won’t work to feed his children is not a man.
No problem with helping others, on a personal or corporate level. It’s the government that has not business in the daddy government business.
